Our Carpentry/Carriage Workshop is where the meticulous work of restoring our historic wooden carriages takes place, ensuring their authenticity and longevity for future generations.
The Opportunity
We are seeking enthusiastic and dedicated Carriage Restoration Volunteers to join our active Carpentry/Carriage Workshop team. This is a hands‑on role where you will assist with various stages of restoring our unique collection of heritage railway carriages. Whether you have specific trade skills (like carpentry or painting) or simply a strong desire to learn and contribute to a significant historical preservation effort, your help is invaluable. This is a fantastic opportunity to work on unique projects and see tangible results.
Key Responsibilities & Duties
* Assist with the cleaning, preparation, and dismantling of carriage components for restoration.
* Support skilled tradespeople (carpenters, painters) with tasks such as sanding, stripping, and minor repairs.
* Help with the reassembly and finishing of restored carriage sections.
* Maintain cleanliness and organisation within the workshop, ensuring a safe working environment.
* Learn about traditional carriage construction and restoration techniques.
* Adhere strictly to all DRR safety procedures and workshop guidelines, including proper use of PPE.
* Contribute to a positive and collaborative workshop environment.
