**About the Organisation**
Our client is an independent statutory agency that is responsible for supporting a better life for hundreds of thousands of Australians with a significant and permanent disability and their families and carers.

**About the Team**

The First Nations Strategy is the Agency's public commitment to working alongside First Nations people with disabilities, their families and their communities.

The Agency is partnering with the First Peoples Disability Network to co-develop the new Strategy, and will actively consult and co-design with the sector, including with First Nations people with disability, participants, families, carers, communities, representative organisations, peak bodies and other sector stakeholders.

**About the Role**

The First Nations Strategic Advisor will have an appropriate seat at the table with Senior Executive Service leaders and support decision-making around the Strategy. All key decisions will be informed by the perspectives and views of the First Nations Strategic Advisor. This individual will 'walk alongside' the First Nations Strategy project team, project sponsor, and other leaders (including Branch Managers and General Managers) in this space.

The position requires the development and maintenance of constructive and influential relationships with key internal and external stakeholders, to ensure their understanding and collaboration on key issues and changes emerging from the Strategy. This will include the Agency's First Nations Employee Network, Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP) Working Group, Closing the Gap Team, Participant First and the Independent Advisory Council.

The primary responsibilities of this position include:

- Guiding and advocating for the strategy development and implementation process and findings internally and externally to help drive alignment and build the profile of the work.
- Maintaining a strong profile in key internal and external stakeholder networks, building, and maintaining stakeholder confidence and partnerships as well as speaking at stakeholder consultations and events, as required.
- Attending governance sessions with key stakeholders. This includes being a member of the First Nations Advisory Group and providing strategic input into sessions.

**Essential Criteria**
- Previous career experience at a senior executive level or, strongly experienced in engaging with and influencing stakeholders at a senior executive level.
- Broad, diverse expertise in First Nations matters, issues and priorities, across different sectors and/or intersectionalities For example: disability, community services, health, families and early childhood, housing and homelessness, justice and/or child protection.
- Experience in organisational strategy and action plan development.
- Cultural competency, including knowledge and/or experience of safe and inclusive community engagement and facilitation.

**Desiderable Criteria**
- Lived experience of disability
- Understanding of current research and emerging trends in support for First Nations people with disability
- Existing relationships with First Nations peak bodies, advocacy organisations, service providers or other organisations.
