We are looking for multiple specialist Musical Theatre teachers to join our ever-increasing Youth Theatre program at Spotlight Theatre for 2026.
Our Youth Theatre program is continually evolving to educate the next generation of performers, we live by our company moto of, "fostering an outlet for creative youth and community, while seeking to produce vibrant, quality entertainment that enriches and educates". Many of our graduates have gone on to pursue a career in the arts, studying at tertiary institutions nation-wide and performing in professional productions
We are seeking instructors who are multifaceted in the areas of dance, acting, singing, stage craft and music skills to join a strong teaching team that's aimed at creating a dynamic learning environment and a safe place for our students to feel comfortable to be themselves, Each class will operate under two primary teaching staff who collectively can cover the disciplines of vocal, acting and choreography and work together to direct, choreograph, musically direct, and produce a Musical for the age group they are hired for.
Our current classes are divided into 4 age groups, Grade 4-6, 7 & 8, 9 & 10 and 11 & 12. We also have a junior song and dance class for the grades 1,2 and 3 on a Saturday. Whilst these are our primary classes, we are looking at adding a variety of alternative classes to the musical theatre program in 2026 (for children and adults), based on demand and teacher skill set, in vocal, dance and acting.
Term 1 currently focuses on the performance technique and developing students' skill set which then leads into audition preparation. Terms 2 and 3 is working towards the mainstage production, depending on class group will generally take place end of Term 3 and throughout Term 4 then concludes in revisiting technique and collaborating towards Graduation Showcase for seniors and in class showcase for the remainder of the classes that we encourage the students to direct and choreograph their own projects to showcase in class in front of their parents .
Each class will have a minimum of 2 Teaching staff who will work together to provide a safe and caring environment and develop an engaging and age-appropriate program that provides an opportunity for students to showcase their talents and continue to grow and develop their performance skills.
Timetabling will be flexible for the right teachers.
Successful applicants must be able to:
1. Demonstrate an aptitude for teaching students of all ages
2. Be competent in at least two Musical Theatre disciplines (eg Dance + singing, Acting + dance, Acting + singing) or all 3
3. Have a vast performance experience or training equivalent
4. Possess a minimum of 3-5 years of performance experience or training equivalent
5. Have experience working with students of all ages in a class setting
6. Have a minimum of 1-2 years of experience working with students in a class setting
7. Be confident teaching students of all levels and abilities
8. Access to or knowledge of how to find resources and materials
9. Must hold a current Blue Card and/or be eligible to obtain a Blue Card before commencing
10. Obtain a Blue Card before the start date of employment
11. Although not compulsory we encourage anyone that is able to play the piano to teach vocal directions (scales etc) to apply.
Employment
1. Work as a team and have great communication skills and be willing to accept direction from others.
2. Be available to attend team meetings monthly.
3. Be prepared to work as a team not only in the class you are hired but within the Youth theatre teaching group as a whole.
