What You’ll Do
As a Skipper, you will play a hands-on role in vessel management and maintenance, guest engagement, and ensuring the marine aspects of our operations meet all compliance, safety, and environmental standards.
Reporting to the Regional Experience Manager, you will:
Skippering
* Safely operate and navigate vessels on scheduled voyages
* Ensure compliance with all relevant maritime and environmental regulations
* Maintain open communication with the team to ensure safe operations, trip viability, and guest satisfaction
* Maintain vessel readiness, including machinery, safety gear, and cleanliness
* Complete preventative maintenance tasks and keep the vessels clean in ‘Guest ready’
Maintenance
* Ensure vessels and assets are well-maintained, coordinating repairs with relevant operational staff and service providers
* Comply with all AMSA regulations, licensing conditions, and safety system requirements
Safety & Environment
* Monitor weather and sea conditions, providing timely updates to staff and advising on trip feasibility
* Support the Marine Coordinator in the review of the Safety Management System (SMS) and operational procedures to meet AMSA regulations
* Champion environmental sustainability by implementing best practices and collaborating with Parks staff to protect the natural landscapes we operate in
People
* Train, mentor, and supervise skippers, guides, and crew, both during trips and in formal training sessions
Essential Requirements:
* Knowledge of Tasmanian Marine & Safety Regulations and AMSA requirements
* A valid Manual Driver’s License and CPR (HLTAID009) certification
* AMSA Certificate of Competency (Coxswains Grade 1 or 2 Near Coastal) with at least 2 years of commercial experience in boat operations
