About the role
We are seeking an experienced Diesel Mechanic to join our client's heavy vehicle fleet team based in Broadwater, near Ballina, NSW. As a Diesel Mechanic, you will be responsible for the repair, maintenance and servicing of a fleet of heavy vehicles and trailer equipment. This is a full-time, permanent role, offering a competitive salary and the opportunity to work with a leading logistics company, and involving both field and workshop tasks.
About the Company
For the past 20 years, SCT Logistics has been providing transport services to the NSW Sugar Industry, such as the haulage of sugar cane during the crushing season and year-round transport of finished sugar products to customers.
The heavy vehicle fleet includes 37 prime movers and specialised trailers used to transport sugar cane, along with a small number of tautliner trailers for finished products. During the sugarcane crushing season which is approximately six months of the year, the role involves some call-out responsibilities, while for the remaining part of the year, a nine-day fortnight is in operation.
What you'll be doing
* Complete a range of servicing, repair and maintenance tasks associated with a heavy vehicle fleet, particularly in relation to specialised trailers, used to haul sugar cane, and a small number of tautliner trailers used for the transport of finished products. Prime movers are on maintained leases.
* Complete scheduled maintenance and inspections to keep the fleet in optimal condition.
* Assist the Head Mechanic in resolving complex issues or situations.
* Troubleshoot and problem-solve issues in thefield, including carrying out minor repairs.
* Be available for weekend standby and call-out duties during the crushing season (all call-out hours are paid).
* Stand in for the Head Mechanic as required, which includes planning, organising, and coordinating maintenance tasks.
* Embrace and adhere to the company's workplace safety procedures.
* Participate in training and further development activities
What we're looking for
* Trade-qualified Heavy Vehicle/Diesel Mechanic
* NSW Tradesperson Certificate – Mechanic; OR be eligible and able to acquire one
* Excellent mechanical diagnostic skills and strong technical knowledge of a heavy vehicle fleet, both in the field and in the workshop.
* Advanced knowledge and skills associated with hydraulic, pneumatic and electrical systems.
* Knowledge and understanding of On-Board Mass systems, Workplace Health & Safety processes and Chain of Responsibility requirements
* Excellent organisational and time management skills, including the ability to prioritise work
* Effective verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to provide direction to other Mechanics and interpret complex technical information.
* Ability to work independently and as part of a team
* Current Class C driver's licence
A current HC driver's licence and forklift licence will be highly regarded
