About the team
As a Day Therapy Pharmacist at Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre, you will practise at the forefront of ambulatory cancer care within Australia's largest oncology infusion service, supporting patients receiving chemotherapy, immunotherapy and complex investigational treatments.
The Pharmacy Day Therapy team provides services to the Day Therapy Unit, Hospital-in-the-Home and the Ambulatory Cellular Therapy (ACT) Unit. The team play a key role in supporting high quality patient care and groundbreaking cancer research through the provision of clinical pharmacy services, working closely with multidisciplinary teams as well as clinical trials and aseptic manufacturing. With a strong focus on innovation, quality, and collaboration, the team contributes directly to advancing cancer treatment and improving outcomes - keeping patient care at the centre of everything we do.
About the role
This dedicated Grade 2 clinical pharmacist role spans clinical checking and treatment verification, and direct patient education and counselling. Working within a highly specialised team of pharmacists and technicians, you will contribute to safe, high-throughput infusion care while developing advanced capability in oncology therapeutics, clinical trials practice and multidisciplinary decision-making.

1. Medication for individual patients is assessed, monitored, and appropriate advice given
Lead a team to deliver on service and quality related performance indicators that relate to:
* Safe and timely verification of anticancer therapy and supportive care medication orders
* Patient understanding of their anticancer and supportive care medicines information
* Completion of medication history interviews and documentation of reconciled medicines
* Close collaboration with the aseptic manufacturing suite to facilitate timely supply of anticancer therapies and supportive care medicines
* Provision of drug information.
2. Regulations, policies, procedures and standards of practice are followed
* Adherence to legislative and professional practice guidelines and institutional procedures relating to medicines management.
* Adherence to principles of quality use of medicines including establishing a patient medication history, review of medication orders and provision of patient counselling, provision of clinical handover as appropriate to work area.
* Accurate recording of clinical activities and statistics appropriate to work area
* Implementation of Regulations, Institute policies, guidelines and professional standards of practice (100%)
3. Active participation in pharmacy practice research and quality projects
Active participation in pharmacy programs
* Active participation in department quality and/or research projects
* Regular active participation in continuing professional development activities (internal and external) including presentation at conferences as appropriate
* Regular participation in on-call and weekend rosters
4. Active participation in clinical supervision, education and other CPD activities
* Lead the delivery of pharmacy services in the Ambulatory Cellular Therapy (ACT) unit and the training of pharmacists in this area
* Act in the role of Senior Day Therapy Pharmacist and Senior HITH Pharmacist when required to cover periods of leave
* Support the training of new pharmacists in Day Therapy
* Active participation in clinical supervision of undergraduate pharmacy students and post graduate pharmacy interns and others as required.
