Primary objective

To research, implement, manage and support the timely provision of Audio-Visual / Information Communication Technology

(AV/ICT) services to Alice Springs School of the Air (ASSOA) staff, students, home tutors and families in the areas of current and

emerging learning communication technologies in relation to delivery of distance education.

Context statement

ASSOA is situated in Alice Springs and caters for students from Pre – Year 9 who live in remote and isolated areas. The school has

an enrolment of approx. 100 students. The school strives for excellence using innovative technologies and modern teaching

practices to enhance outcomes for students in a distance learning context.

Key duties and responsibilities

1. Manage AV/ICT services, including installation and maintenance of hardware for IDL Studios and home classrooms, networks,

phones, and AV/ICT devices, incorporating system security and policy alignment measures.

2. Manage user software and monitoring tools. Provide real-time support and training to staff, families, and tutors as needed.

3. Lead the AV/ICT team and, with Senior Staff, drive the evaluation and adoption of emerging technologies aligned with the

ASSOA Strategic Plan backed by evidence-based research and subject-matter expert recommendations.

4. Manage AV/ICT assets and budget, including physical and virtual inventory, routine maintenance, repairs, scheduled

replacements, and allocation tracking. Oversee ongoing budget expenditure to ensure effective use of allocated funds.

5. Support school operations remotely and onsite, including travel to remote locations to resolve issues.

1. Collaborate across the school and NTG, contributing to the Admin Team and liaising with staff, external providers, and

government stakeholders to ensure effective service delivery. Undertake administrative tasks and other duties as required.

Selection criteria

Essential

1. Demonstrated high-level organisational skills, including the ability to manage competing priorities and deliver timely outcomes.

2. Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to liaise effectively with staff, students, families, and external

stakeholders from diverse cultures backgrounds and clearly communicate technological processes to non-technical users.

3. Demonstrated knowledge and practical experience in managing AV/ICT systems preferably in an educational and distance

education context, including computer hardware, networks (wired and wireless), phone systems, and peripheral equipment.

4. Proficiency in implementing, managing and supporting the use of a range of software and digital platforms, including Microsoft

Office, databases, and video conferencing tools.

5. Understanding of AV/ICT-related procedures, standards, and policies relevant to distance education and DET operations, with

practical experience in applying them in school settings.

6. Demonstrated experience in leading AV/ICT strategic planning and implementation, including budget management.

Desirable

1. Formal qualifications or vendor certifications (e.g. CompTIA, Cisco, AVIXA) in relevant fields, or progress toward such.

2. Experience supporting live streaming, hybrid learning environments, or interactive video delivery.

3. Ability to develop user guides or training materials for non-technical users.

travel, including on unsealed roads in 4WD vehicles, requiring a manual driver's licence and overnight stays in remote locations.
