Bourkies Bakehouse is a well loved country bakery café in the Macedon Ranges, known for quality handmade products, strong community connection and a supportive, team focused culture.
We are looking for an experienced and motivated Store Team Leader to lead our Front of House team and oversee daily shop operations.
This is a hands-on leadership role suited to someone who thrives in a fast paced hospitality environment and enjoys building a positive and organised team.
About the Role
As Store Team Leader, you will be responsible for ensuring the shop runs smoothly each day, staff feel supported and customers receive exceptional service. You will play a key role in maintaining Bourkies service standards, team culture and operational organisation.
What You Will Be DoingDaily Operations
* Opening and preparing the shop for daily trade
* Completing opening checklists and ensuring store readiness
* Setting up tills, floats and POS systems
* Ensuring display cabinets are stocked, rotated and presented to Bourkies standards
* Coordinating food finishing and preparation with production teams
* Ensuring coffee station and service areas are fully prepared
* Overseeing daily workflow and service pace
Team Leadership
* Leading, supporting and motivating front of house staff
* Allocating daily tasks and delegating staff roles
* Monitoring team performance and providing coaching and guidance
* Supporting onboarding and training of new and existing staff
* Maintaining a respectful and positive workplace culture
* Managing staff concerns and escalating when required
Customer Experience
* Leading by example in customer service
* Handling customer enquiries and resolving concerns professionally
* Maintaining strong product knowledge
* Ensuring shop cleanliness and presentation standards are maintained
Ordering and Stock Management
* Managing front of house ordering and supply levels
* Monitoring stock levels and minimising wastage
* Liaising with production and management teams regarding stock requirements
* Maintaining operational documentation and checklists
Hot Food Production and Availability
* Overseeing hot food production including baking pies, pasties and sausage rolls
* Monitoring cabinet stock levels throughout service
* Ensuring popular items remain available for customers
* Coordinating baking schedules to avoid product shortages
* Maintaining quality, presentation and food safety standards
* Supporting wastage control through smart production planning
Compliance and Safety
* Ensuring food safety procedures are followed
* Supporting workplace health and safety standards
* Ensuring staff follow Bourkies policies and procedures
About You
You are someone who:
* Has previous leadership experience in hospitality, bakery, café or retail
* Is confident managing busy service periods
* Is organised, reliable and proactive
* Leads by example and supports team members
* Has strong communication and problem solving skills
* Has barista experience or strong coffee knowledge (highly desirable)
* Is comfortable or willing to learn baking hot savoury products during service
