The museum is seeking an experienced people manager with a strong track record in program development and delivery, audience engagement and project management. The Manager of Public Programs is responsible for the oversight and delivery of major events and public programmes for the Museum's diverse audiences and for managing the Tim and Gina Fairfax Discovery Centre and its programmes.
Reporting to the Head of Visitor Experience, the role directly manages a team of APS 6 Senior Programme Producers who drive the development, delivery and evaluation of public programmes for early learners, families, access groups, teens, adults and intergenerational audiences.
Key Accountabilities
* Lead the team to develop innovative programmes that align with the museum's exhibitions, themes and audience interests and maintain high standards of engagement.
* Collaborate with the Manager, Strategic Programs and other stakeholders to design a forward‑looking programme of events in line with key priorities and the exhibition programme.
* Project‑manage programme delivery, overseeing logistics, risk assessment, budgets, resource coordination and staff capability.
* Oversee the safe operation of the Tim and Gina Fairfax Discovery Centre and deliver regular programming for families, early learners, school holiday, adult and intergenerational audiences.
* Support the Head of Visitor Experience with work plans, budgets and reports.
* Prioritise safe work practices, accessibility and cultural safety across programmes and staff development.
* Ensure programmes reflect accessibility, cultural safety and inclusion standards, working with First Nations and access advisors.
* Monitor programme performance and impact, using evaluation data, feedback and audience insights to inform continuous improvement.
* Manage contracts, budgets and logistics for public programmes, ensuring quality and cost‑effective delivery.
* Demonstrate a strong commitment to Work Health and Safety (WH&S) by supporting a positive safety culture and complying with the museum's WHS policies and the Work Health and Safety Act 2011.
