Position Details Payroll and Benefits Specialist Stockbridge Community School District, Stockbridge, Michigan POSTING DATE : December 10, **** SUMMARY: The Payroll and Benefits Specialist position performs responsibilities necessary to process payroll in a regular and timely manner and can adapt to a variety of responsibilities between the Human Resources Department and Business Office.
The payroll position presents a positive image when communicating with staff members and properly handles all confidential matters.
This position reports to the business manager and is a 52-week contract.
QUALIFICATIONS: This position prefers a bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or business or equivalent experience.
A minimum of three years of progressively more responsible or expansive payroll experience in a public education setting is preferred.
Excellent technology skills and attention to detail with the ability to quickly assimilate data and provide thoughtful reports and recommendations.
Advanced technology skills including Enterprise ERP Munis, Red Rover, Google and Microsoft Office products, specifically, word and excel or similar related software.

Highly flexible with good attendance Excellent analytical and communication skills Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing Must be bondable to appropriate level Ability to work as a part of the team Excellent math and computer skills Knowledge of principles and practices of accounting Ability to utilize technology to accomplish assigned tasks Must maintain confidentiality Demonstrates leadership and initiative with regard to major financial issues/legislation impacting SCS PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES : Manage and guarantee the bi-weekly disbursement of payroll for all district employees, including hourly, exempt, non-exempt, and contractual staff Maintains payroll information by collecting, calculating, and entering data Process all payroll documentation to ensure accurate deductions Process all W-4s, direct deposits, garnishments levies, and child support Ensure compliance with IRS regulations, including retirement, health insurance, 403(b), and Section 125 plan deductions Keep updated on all new tax laws and regulations and implement them appropriately Prepare and submit quarterly unemployment and 941 tax returns (federal, state, and FICA) Perform all calendar year-end functions, including W-2 processing and reconciliation Process and manage all aspects of direct deposit, including payroll deductions, ACH file processing, and submissions to financial institutions Process additional earnings such as stipends, Schedule B payments, board-paid annuities, expense reimbursements, and earning adjustments Process and distribute payroll deduction vendor checks Identify and report potential payroll discrepancies, compliance issues, or over-expenditures Provides payroll information by answering questions and requests Maintains annual Payroll Documentation Manual Maintains payroll operations by following policies and procedures; reporting needed changes Responsible for all aspects of retirement reporting with the Office of Retirement Services (ORS), including biweekly reports, new hire elections, reform compliance, and retiree final reports Compiling, calculating and entering all teacher and support staff contracts and pay rates Assist with the District Annual Audit and Worker's Compensation Annual Audit by providing required documentation and reports Assists new staff to orient them to the applicable benefit package Assists all staff with inquiries about employee benefits, initiation of disability Coordinates annual open enrollment process ¸ with support from other department staff.
Provides all necessary information to benefit providers to ensure eligible employees have coverage Reviews and processes new hire paperwork to ensure all benefit information is complete and accurate; creates and maintains employee insurance and medical files; initiates all necessary benefit data maintenance relative to terminations, leaves of absence, new assignment placement, etc Maintain liaison between business office and human resources for the purpose of coordinating activities, discussion and resolution of problems Other duties as assigned COMPENSATION – Salary and benefits will be negotiated commensurate with experience and qualifications.
Salary range $50,000 to $60,000.
