The Indigenous Consumer Assistance Network (ICAN) is a not-for-profit organisation dedicated to empowering Indigenous Australians through financial literacy, consumer advocacy, and financial counselling. Our mission, "Empowering Indigenous Consumers," drives our work in communities across North Queensland. By providing essential services, we aim to help Indigenous individuals and families build financial resilience, overcome barriers, and achieve financial wellbeing.

About the Role

As a Grow Officer, you'll receive hands‑on experience working with clients one‑on‑one and in group settings to deliver financial education and support. This role isn't just a job; it's a chance to "choose your own adventure" as you develop professional skills, build your qualifications, and make a meaningful impact in North Queensland communities.


What You'll Be Doing

* Training: Gain practical skills and knowledge while completing a Certificate IV in Community Services or a Diploma in Financial Counselling.
* Financial Literacy Support: Work alongside experienced financial counsellors and financial capability staff to support clients with budgeting, financial planning, and accessing essential resources.
* Community Connection: Build networks with community services to enhance client support.
* Client Empowerment: Help clients access government grants, financial products, and overcome barriers to financial wellbeing.
* Data and Reporting: Collect and report on data to demonstrate program impact and support continuous improvement.


Who We're Looking For

We're looking for motivated individuals ready to learn, grow, and make a difference. If you're committed to helping Indigenous Australians achieve financial resilience, this role is for you

Identifies as Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander, is of Indigenous descent, and is accepted by the Indigenous community.

Excited to complete a Certificate IV in Community Services or a Diploma in Financial Counselling.

Sound Language, Literacy, and Numeracy skills to be able to complete a Certificate IV (additional support provided if needed)

Understanding of Indigenous cultures with the ability to connect and communicate effectively.

Team player with a positive attitude towards continual learning and development.


Skills and Knowledge

* Eager to develop both personal and professional skills.
* Passionate about supporting clients in a non‑judgmental and empathetic way.
* Basic proficiency in Microsoft 365.
* Ready to learn about financial resilience and community service principles.

* Understanding of Indigenous Cultures: Describe your connection to Indigenous communities and how this will help you effectively engage with clients.
* Interest in the Role: Tell us why you're excited about a trainee position in financial capability and community support, and why you're interested in completing a Certificate IV in Community Services or a Diploma in Financial Counselling.
* Teamwork Skills: Share an example of when you worked well with others to achieve a goal. This could be in any setting, such as work, school, or community.
* Basic Computer Skills: Describe your familiarity with Microsoft Word and Excel or similar programs.
