Background
This opportunity sits within the Directorate of Deployed ICT (D-ICT), responsible for sustaining and evolving critical deployed network capabilities supporting ADF operations. The environment spans 400+ nodes and 800+ terminals, requiring strong systems engineering, integration, and stakeholder coordination capabilities.
You will play a key role in supporting Defence Command and Control warfighting networks, working across complex environments including:
* Deployable Information Environment (DIE)
* Fleet Information Environment (FIE/FIS)
* Mission Partner Environment (MPE)
About The Role
The Infrastructure Engineer will provide technical leadership across infrastructure design, integration, and delivery within complex Defence ICT environments, working across multiple projects and stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities
* Assess and report on current infrastructure, hardware, and systems across projects
* Lead design and development of infrastructure solutions considering:
o Security
o Integration
o Performance
o Data and functionality
* Deliver key engineering artefacts, including:
o High Level Designs
o System configuration documentation
o Build guides, scripts, and SOPs
o Quality assurance plans
* Provide technical leadership and advisory services to stakeholders
* Identify system deficiencies and deliver remediation strategies
* Produce technical assurance outputs including:
o Objective quality evidence
o Training assessments
o Judgements of significance
* Support cross-project coordination, risk identification, and decision‐making documentation
Core Requirements
* Strong experience in Defence or government ICT environments
* Proven experience delivering systems/software engineering outcomes (Level 3)
* Ability to produce high-quality engineering artefacts (HLDs, build guides, reports)
* Experience working across multiple stakeholders and complex programs
* Strong understanding of integration and cross-system dependencies
* Ability to work independently while contributing to team delivery
