We are seeking a reliable and experienced Handyman / Carpenter to carry out reactive maintenance and minor carpentry works across Defence facilities. This role suits someone practical, safety-focused, and comfortable working independently on secure sites.
About the Role
You will be responsible for attending Defence sites to inspect, assess, and complete minor building and carpentry works, or make areas safe and report findings where specialist trades are required.
The work is predominantly short-duration, reactive maintenance tasks, requiring good judgement, clear reporting, and a strong understanding of building fabric and fixtures.
Key Responsibilities
* Attend Defence sites to inspect reported maintenance issues
* Carry out minor carpentry and handyman repairs including doors, frames, fittings, and internal fixtures
* Investigate water ingress and leak reports, identify causes, and complete minor rectification where applicable
* Make areas safe through temporary repairs or stabilisation
* Identify when works fall outside carpentry scope and escalate or refer appropriately
* Complete job documentation and reports accurately for Defence records
* Liaise professionally with Defence personnel and facility managers
* Maintain high standards of safety, compliance, and workmanship
Essential Requirements
* Trade-qualified Carpenter or highly experienced Handyman
* Proven experience in maintenance or facilities works
* Ability to work independently and manage reactive jobs
* Strong problem-solving and fault-finding skills
* High attention to safety and compliance
* Good written and verbal communication skills
* Current driver's licence
* Ability to obtain and maintain a Defence Security Clearance (or willingness to apply)
* Construction Induction (White) card
