Overview
Senior Research Development Officer (Two positions) – Griffith University. Two roles available within the Group Research Development Team reporting to the Deputy Director – Research Services, Office for Research. Each SRDO is embedded within the Office of the Dean Research in an Academic Group or with a specific Research Institute.
Locations and focus
Griffith Sciences Academic Group – part of a team of three SRDOs with a focus on commercial/contract research. Base options: Brisbane South (Nathan) or Gold Coast campus.
Institute for Biomedicine and Glycomics (IBG) – support the Institute to develop and facilitate growth, diversity and sustainability of the Institute's external research funding portfolio (competitive grants and contract research). Work with the Institute's Business Development team and the Chair of the Institute's Research Committee to advise on income goals and strategies.
Applicants should indicate their preference for the Sciences Group or IBG position (or both) and highlight interest and experience in supporting competitive grants or contract research (or both).
Both SRDO positions will coordinate with policies and processes managed by the Office for Research, Griffith Enterprise, Griffith Graduate Research School, Advancement and Griffith International.
Responsibilities
Provide advice to researchers on funding opportunities, including preparation, review and drafting of applications to maximise competitiveness and compliance with scheme requirements.
Identify international and national funding opportunities aligned with Institute capabilities; coordinate distribution and facilitate discussions on opportunities to pursue.
Undertake track record assessments to determine researcher readiness for specific grant schemes and provide grant strategy advice.
Develop and implement Early Career Researcher grant application support processes and promote capability development training through the Researcher Education and Development team.
Identify, develop and deliver initiatives to build proposal preparation, industry engagement, research collaboration, budget formulation and project management skills.
About you
The successful candidate will hold postgraduate qualifications and extensive relevant experience, or a combination of knowledge, training and/or extensive experience in higher education, research, industry or government. A PhD is highly regarded.
Ability to assist researchers to identify, conceptualise and develop successful grant applications.
Knowledge of international and national research policy environments, grant scheme rules and current issues/trends in higher education research.
Analytical, problem-solving and research development skills; ability to work under broad direction and independently within a team.
Strong communication, negotiation and relationship-management skills, including liaising with academic staff and colleagues at all levels.
A good understanding of commercial research and consultancy work, knowledge of the broader Australian research environment, and familiarity with philanthropic funding pitches are desirable.
What we can offer
These are fixed-term (two years), full-time positions primarily based at Griffith University Brisbane South (Nathan) or Gold Coast. As Griffith is a multi-site university you may be required to work across other locations. Campuses located on the lands of the Yugarabul, Yuggera, Jagera, Turrbal, Yugambeh and Kombumerri peoples.
Salary and benefits
The full-time base salary for a HEW Level 8 is in the range A$113,713 - A$127,923 per annum, plus 17% employer superannuation. Total FTE package: A$133,044 - A$149,670 per annum.
