About the Role
Peak Downs is an open‐pit coal mine that produces high‐quality hard coking coal and is one of Australia's biggest coal mines by recoverable coal reserves. It is located 31 kilometres south‐east of Moranbah in Queensland's Bowen Basin on the traditional lands of the Barada Barna people.
Reporting into Manager Production, the Blast Superintendent plays a key role in coordinating daily drill and blast activities to support safe and efficient production outcomes across the Peak Downs operation. You'll work closely with a skilled and supportive team, ensuring high‐quality planning, execution and monitoring of all drill and blast activities on site.
Responsibilities
* Lead and support the Blast crew to deliver safe, compliant and effective blast outcomes
* Oversee daily shot preparations, timing, QA/QC checks and blast initiation
* Collaborate closely with Drill & Blast Engineers, Shotfirers, and Production teams to achieve schedule requirements
* Contribute to a culture that prioritises safety, teamwork, continuous improvement and clear communication
* Support training, coaching and development of team members
* Champion inclusive and respectful ways of working across the blast team
Qualifications

You enjoy problem‐solving, planning ahead and working with others to achieve great results, and are confident in both your technical skills and your ability to support a team through change, challenge and growth.
* Relevant mining qualifications and statutory competencies (e.g. S123, G2)
* Shotfirer accreditation / Queensland Shotfirer Tickets
* Previous supervisory experience within a Drill & Blast or blasting operations team on a coal mine site
* Strong knowledge of drill & blast planning, field operations and safety processes
* The ability to build trusting relationships and support others to perform at their best
* A calm, inclusive and proactive approach to decision‐making
* A commitment to maintaining a positive safety culture and high operational standards
