The Bureau operates under the authority of the Meteorology Act 1955 and the Water Act 2007 and routinely provides the best possible meteorological and hydrological advice and warning services to the Australian community. Flood warning infrastructure enables the Bureau to provide communities and emergency services with riverine flood forecasts and warnings used to support disaster preparedness, response and recovery.
We are seeking enthusiastic and experienced hydrographic, electronics, electrical, instrumentation or metrology/measurement science technicians, ideally with previous field experience. You must be a suitably qualified team player who enjoys hands‐on work in the field, is willing and able to travel to remote locations across Australia, and is excited by the prospect of seeing many parts of the country.
About the OrganisationThe Observing Operations Hubs are the Bureau of Meteorology's technical operations centres, comprising eight hubs – one in each capital city and Cairns. Staff based at the hubs travel far and wide and into remote areas, utilising 4WDs, planes, boats and helicopters to maintain service delivery within the various instrumentation networks.
As part of a national maintenance workforce, you will have the opportunity to support the other seven hubs on occasion and will report to and be mentored by a team lead in the hub.
