About the role
As an Associate Developer, you will quickly learn new technologies and work on large complex solutions with a strong focus on building high‑quality products. You will contribute to developing and maintaining codebases for several major products including, PerthNow, The West, The Game, Community News, and 18 regional sites.
The role will see you work with a modern technology stack supporting up to 1.45 million unique users per day in a team that deploys to production multiple times daily on serverless infrastructure - gaining valuable and transferable skills while solving meaningful technical challenges.
* Develop code supported by a mature CI/CD platform with branch deployments.
* Write infrastructure‑as‑code alongside application code for services and products.
* Work within a strong Agile culture using SCRUM.
* Use a wide range of AWS services in production, including Lambda, DynamoDB, SQS/SNS, and ECS, all deployed using infrastructure as code (with Pulumi).
* Work with TypeScript across all and projects.
* Use GitHub for source control and collaboration, with GitHub Actions for CI.
* Deploy to production automatically via merge‑to‑master workflows.
About you
* A solid understanding of programming fundamentals; experience with JavaScript, React, and TypeScript is beneficial but not essential.
* Relevant training or professional experience in software development or a related field.
* Knowledge of and, or a willingness to build experience in these technologies.
* Motivation to contribute to both public‑facing and internal news products while continually developing your skill set.
* An independent, goal‑oriented work style with a strong sense of ownership.
* Strong interpersonal skills paired with a positive, collaborative mindset.
