Due to an increased demand within our business, SYPAQ is seeking a Solution Architect for an opportunity with a Federal Government Department on a range of interesting and complex projects. This is a long‐term contract with the initial contract up to 30th June 2026 plus two 6‐month extensions, with a potential start in April 2026. The role is based in Canberra; remote and hybrid options will be considered but preference is for the candidate to be based in Canberra.
Anticipated Work
* Support for development of a new office construction, including developing documentation to support an approach to market. This will cover the ICT components required for the construction such as end‐user compute needs, ICT fit‐out, and establishment of a small onsite data centre. Work will include facilitating workshops, requirements gathering, reviewing vendor documentation, providing expert advice to decision makers, designing solutions and collaborating with a range of disciplines within IT, facilities and security teams. Estimated workload: 750 hours with option to extend. Skills desired: solution architecture with infrastructure experience.
* Support for a new major project led by a system integrator to replace a petabyte‐scale data hosting solution. Work includes review, development and oversight of solution architecture documentation, provide advice to the system business owners on proposed solutions, supporting document preparation for internal and external security authorisation processes, investigating and documenting opportunities for re‐use across other entity systems and representation at meetings and events on behalf of GA. Estimated workload: 750 hours with option to extend. Skills desired: solution architecture with infrastructure experience.
* For role 1, there may be a requirement to travel within Australia, to be covered by Geoscience Australia. Willingness to work remotely for up to 3‐5 days at a time may be required.
Key Responsibilities
* Provide advice to business owners to support decision making
* Development and oversight on technical solution designs
* Ensure system design and implementation documentation are fit for purpose to support transition to BAU
* Support development and review of system plans including testing, monitoring, capacity
* Support in the development and/or assessment of documentation to ICT Change Advisory Board
* Support security assessment of design and system delivery
* Participation in architectural working groups
* Assisting with development of enterprise‐level recommendations to inform senior leadership and governance discussions
* Contributing to the preparation of executive‐level briefing material, papers, and recommendations
* Working closely with the project team, enterprise architecture resources, and subject matter experts to ensure analytical outputs are coherent and decision focused
Required Skills & Experience
* Strong experience and proven capability in solution or related architecture of at least 5 years
* Strong analytical skills, with experience supporting options analysis, sequencing, and decision‐making
* Experience delivering executive‐level recommendations, including clear written articulation of complex issues
* Ability to work effectively with partial or evolving inputs and operate in an environment with schedule pressure
