Job Description
About the role
As the Mega and Strategic Events Project Specialist, you'll support the management and delivery of major contracted events, ensuring they align with government priorities and TEQ's vision to showcase Queensland as a premier global destination.
You'll foster collaboration across government agencies and external partners, lead project streams, and ensure compliance with contractual requirements and project timelines. The role involves monitoring progress, reporting to senior management, and contributing to the development of business cases and frameworks that maximize the economic and social legacy of supported events. Success will be measured by the timely achievement of project milestones and the effective delivery of Queensland's obligations for mega and strategic events.
* Support the delivery of major event projects, including the Men's Rugby World Cup 2027 and AFC Women's Asian Cup 2026, ensuring Queensland's expectations and government priorities are met.
* Lead or coordinate project streams to secure, leverage, and deliver mega and strategically important events, contributing to the economic development of tourism and events in Queensland.
* Prepare and assist with submissions, proposals, and hosting agreements to secure event content for Queensland, working closely with internal and external stakeholders.
* Manage project tools and resources, monitor project progress, and ensure compliance with contractual requirements throughout the project lifecycle.
* Provide high-level briefings, reports, and presentations to senior management, government, and key stakeholders on strategic event issues.
* Build and maintain effective networks with stakeholders, chair or support working group meetings, and represent Tourism and Events Queensland at relevant forums as required.

* Broad knowledge of the national and global mega events landscape, with experience in event‑related procurement and contract management.

* Strong analytical, communication, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build effective relationships and provide sound recommendations.
* Experience coordinating complex projects with multiple stakeholders and competing priorities, particularly in events requiring government support.
