About Us

Corrections Victoria is part of the Department of Justice and Community Safety and is responsible for the operation of Victoria's adult corrections system, public and privately operated prisons, and a transitional centre. It ensures that people held in prison are safely and securely contained and aims to rehabilitate people by addressing the underlying causes of offending behaviour.

Western Plains Correctional Centre (Western Plains) is a modern, maximum‐security prison focussed on rehabilitation, housing up to 1248 people in custody. Western Plains features multi‐purpose infrastructure which is adaptable to the evolving needs of Corrections Victoria and the people in our care. Modern amenities include medical wards, a cultural centre, and vocational training facilities.

About The Role

The Disability Support Worker works within a multidisciplinary team responsible for providing a holistic range of therapeutic treatment, support and rehabilitation based on the needs of people in our care with disabilities and complex needs. The Disability Support Worker provides crucial disability support knowledge to the broader team and relevant stakeholders and utilises an understanding of relevant disability support services both within the criminal justice system and the community to implement and monitor support plans. In addition, they will utilise an understanding of disability needs to support service users to access relevant disability support services, including but not limited to the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS), implement high level disability case co‐ordination and provide advocacy and advice in relation to disability needs to a range of internal and external stakeholders.

Some Of Your Duties Will Include
* Under general direction, implementing and monitoring a range of support plans, with oversight from senior staff, using knowledge of client need, preferences and interests.
* Managing a dynamic caseload of people in our care presenting with confirmed or suspected cognitive impairments who have a range of disability associated needs, including participation in local case management practices.
* Co‐ordinating triage processes, action any relevant referrals to internal and external services and support service users to access relevant services both in the community and within prison settings.
About You
* Demonstrated experience working with and implementing supports for people who demonstrate cognitive impairments.
* Experience in providing case coordination across a number of internal and external stakeholders for vulnerable cohorts who display disability and complex needs.
* An understanding of the challenges involved in working within a forensic environment.
* Demonstrated experience working within the field of disability and/or the criminal justice system.
Qualifications
* Relevant tertiary qualification or experience in the field of allied health is highly desirable for this role.
* Considerable experience within the Disability sector is desirable.
* Experience working with forensic and/or correctional environments is highly desirable.
* A current Victorian driver's licence is required for this role.
