Shelford Campus
Opening in 2027, the Shelford Campus will be the newest Junior School of Caulfield Grammar School. It will initially offer exceptional education for Prep and Years 4–6 before progressively growing into a full Prep‐to‐Year‐6 Junior School. The Role
The Shelford Campus Head of Music will play a defining role in establishing a vibrant, high‐quality music programme that reflects the school's values, culture and commitment to excellence from the outset.
Reporting to the Head of Campus and working closely with the School Director of Music and the Music Leadership Team, you will provide vision and leadership for all aspects of Junior School music, overseeing curriculum, performance, instrumental programmes and maintaining an active teaching presence within the Junior School music programme.
Central to this role is the development and delivery of an engaging, sequential Kodály‐based curriculum from Prep to Year 6, ensuring best practice in assessment, reporting and pedagogical innovation. You will also oversee instrumental programmes, coordinate ensembles and performances, and contribute to strategic planning for music across the School.
This is an ongoing teaching contract, with a 3‐year POR as Head of Music based at the new Shelford Campus.
Key Responsibilities
* Develop and enhance teaching and learning in music across the Junior School, establishing an engaging programme and high‐quality practice as Shelford Campus opens.
* Lead and implement a sequential Kodály‐based Junior School music curriculum from Prep to Year 6, including assessment and reporting.
* Provide strategic oversight of Junior School music programmes, including classroom music, instrumental tuition, ensembles, rehearsals and performances.
* Supervise, coach and support classroom and instrumental music teachers, fostering collaborative practice and professional growth.
* Coordinate and lead music performances, concerts and events, ensuring strong student participation and artistic excellence.
* Work collaboratively with the School Director of Music, the Campus Leadership Team and the Music Leadership Team to align Junior and Senior School music pathways.
* Promote student engagement and inclusion in music, encouraging participation across curricular and co‐curricular programmes.
* Liaise effectively with teachers, parents, instrumental tutors and external providers to support student learning and performance programmes.
* Contribute to strategic planning, curriculum review and innovation in music education across the School.
* Manage music resourcing, spaces and budget, ensuring effective use of materials and resources.
* Demonstrate visible leadership through teaching, rehearsal direction and active involvement in School life.
* Model and live the Caulfield Grammar School values and behaviours.
Skills and Qualifications
* Teaching qualifications with tertiary qualifications in Music and Education (postgraduate qualifications desirable).
* Current Victorian Institute of Teaching registration.
* First Aid – Level 2 and Anaphylaxis qualifications.
* Demonstrated experience teaching and leading music programmes in a Junior or Primary School setting.
* Strong curriculum knowledge, with experience in Kodály methodology highly regarded.
* Experience leading and managing music staff, including classroom and instrumental teachers.
* Experience coordinating outstanding performance programmes, ensembles and instrumental tuition.
* Highly developed communication, organisational and time‐management skills.
* Experience working collaboratively within leadership teams and across school contexts.
* Experience with the IB PYP Programme (advantageous).
