Education Assistant – Special Needs Branch

We are seeking to establish a pool of Special Needs Education Assistants for permanent and fixed‑term, full‑time and part‑time vacancies that may arise during the 2025 school year and up to the end of Term 3, 2026. Appointments may be offered at any time for vacancies that commence during this period.

The Role

Suitable applicants will ideally possess excellent interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to collaborate well with teachers to create and maintain a supportive, inclusive education program that meets the specific needs of students. A regular use of safe work practices will be highly regarded. You should be organized and able to use your initiative to assist teachers with the general care, wellbeing of students and maintenance of the learning environment.

You may work either under general supervision or autonomously, contributing advice and expertise and collaborating with the school community to support student achievement. We seek applicants who are committed to enhancing students' learning opportunities using their understanding of differentiation, intervention, and engagement strategies to help students access the curriculum.

Suitable applicants will assist teaching staff in delivering planned education programs and promoting a supportive and inclusive learning environment for all students. You will also provide feedback on education and therapy programs and participate in the evaluation process relating to student progress. The ability to assist with the general health and wellbeing of students and the willingness to engage with children with challenging behaviours is highly desirable.

Eligibility

* Be an Australian or New Zealand citizen, permanent resident, or have a valid visa with relevant work rights for the term of the appointment.
* Obtain a valid Working With Children Check before you start.
* Consent to a National Criminal History Check with the Department's Screening Unit.

Your application should include the following:

* A CV of up to two pages outlining your employment history and professional learning summary relevant to this position.
* A three‑page statement addressing the selection criteria as outlined in the attached JDF.
* Demonstrated good written and oral communication skills, including the ability to interact with students with special needs, parents and teaching professionals on the provision of educational programs, and to assist teachers in understanding students where necessary.
* Demonstrated good interpersonal skills, including the ability to work as part of a team in the evaluation of educational programs, including special education and therapy programs where these have been implemented.
* Demonstrated good organisational skills that will assist in the delivery and development of effective education programs to students and subsequent feedback to teaching professionals or psychologists.
* Demonstrated ability to assist teachers or therapists in implementing educational programs, including special education and, if required, occupational and/or physiotherapy programs.
* Demonstrated knowledge of health and physical disabilities in students and adolescents.
* Demonstrated ability to assist with the general health and well‑being of students.
