(including salary $132,408 - $147,919)
Mental Health Central Australia Region
Alice Springs, Northern Territory
One full time vacancy, fixed to 17/05/2027 is available
Are you exploring a leadership opportunity that blends high-level clinical influence with an extraordinary lifestyle?
Alice Springs Hospital is a teaching hospital, affiliated with the Flinders University in South Australia and Charles Darwin University in Darwin. It is the only major hospital covering over a million square km with a strong focus on indigenous and remote health as a result of such a dispersed population. Over two thirds of acute admissions are Aboriginal people both from town and remote communities. Consequently, cultural, language and communication skills are an important component of our service delivery.
Currently, a 13 month opportunity is available for an experienced Social Worker, Occupational Therapist, Mental Health Nurse or Psychologist to step into the role of Child and Youth Team Manager and experience living and working in Central Australia.
In this leadership position, you'll guide a multidisciplinary team delivering culturally responsive mental health assessment and treatment for children, young people and their families, while providing professional support and direction to your staff.
As part of the Mental Health, Alcohol and Other Drugs service, you'll work within a network of specialist teams across Alice Springs and the Barkly region. This is a unique chance to contribute to a highly valued field within a collaborative, positive and supportive environment — and to make a meaningful impact in the lives of young people in Central Australia.
To be successful, you require current registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) and full membership of the Australian Association of Social Workers (AASW). In addition, you need to demonstrate an advanced level of clinical skills with recent clinical experience with children and young people with complex mental health needs. Proven leadership, clinical management and team development skills are essential, as well as exceptional and conflict resolution skills, sound knowledge of the issues facing First Nations populations and the skills to develop and deliver culturally safe mental health services.
In return, you will enjoy the benefits of a competitive remuneration with salary packaging options, including 12% Superannuation, 6-weeks recreational and 3-weeks personal leave, generous professional development leave and an opportunity to contribute to a region where clinical leadership has an immediate and lasting impact. Additional allowances and assistance with relocation maybe discussed at interview,
If you reside interstate or even overseas, this a great time to consider relocating to Central Australia. Alice Springs (or Mparntwe in Arrernte language) is the third-largest town in the Northern Territory. With a population of approximately 33,000 people, the region has deep spiritual origins dating back more than 30,000 years, and an abundance of rich Aboriginal culture and history. Spectacular national parks surround Alice Springs boasting a lifestyle that is considered second to none in Australia. With an emphasis on outdoor activities, arts and a unique rich culture, Alice Springs is a friendly, welcoming place suited to anyone with a sense of adventure and those interested in indigenous health issues, not generally encountered by professionals in other areas of Australia.
