The Role
We are seeking an Assistant Director – Building NSW to provide comprehensive technical and building services advice to HIA members consistent with HIA perspectives, policies and procedures. To develop and promote HIA's position on building regulations in NSW.
Key duties of this role are:
Provide technical advice to HIA members on issues related primarily to residential building and development, construction practices and material technology, including:
NSW building regulations;
requirements of the National Construction Code and referenced Australian Standards;
building materials and construction;
workplace health and safety regulations, and
acceptable standards and tolerances for residential building work.
Provide technical support to the Executive Director and national Building, Planning and Environment team and Contracts and Compliance team
Provide administrative support and coordinate the NSW Regional Technical Committee and other HIA committees as required.
Assist in the preparation and delivery of technical training material for member programs and coordinate with the NSW training and events staff to deliver & present topics at HIA NSW member events
Assist in the preparation of technical articles for inclusion in HIA publications and electronic communications
Contribute to the development of HIA technical information sheets for members
Research and develop written submissions in response to NSW and ACT government policy or regulatory proposals
Represent HIA on government and external industry forums including ABCB committees and Australian Standards committees
Liaise with NSW Councils on the behalf of HIA members regarding building regulations.

Qualifications and experience
A building trade with extensive experience or a builders license,
A relevant building related qualification and/or experience
Sound knowledge of and experience with the building/planning approval arrangements in NSW.
Training qualifications or experience will be seen as an added benefit
Computer literate in standard office software
Strong verbal communication and negotiation skills
Current driving license.
