Senior Software Engineer (EL1) | SAP Enterprise Platforms & National Service Delivery

* Contract Length: 12 months + up to 24 months extensions (Department discretion)
About the position:
This Senior Software Engineer role supports enterprise SAP platforms underpinning national service delivery systems used by millions of Australians.
Operating at EL1-equivalent level, the position carries technical ownership across design, development, release, and integration activities within a large, geographically dispersed ICT environment. This is not purely development execution. It is leadership across code quality, release discipline, architectural alignment, and system integrity.
You will work within structured government delivery frameworks where governance, documentation, and compliance expectations are embedded into the engineering lifecycle.
What you'll do:
* Lead design and development of complex SAP-based solutions across enterprise environments
* Provide technical leadership across Agile delivery and production support phases
* Drive release planning, integration coordination, and go-live stability
* Oversee risk management, code quality standards, and long-term maintainability of solutions
What we are looking for:
* Advanced hands-on SAP development experience across complex enterprise systems
* Strong working knowledge of SAP S/4 HANA, SAP CRM, ABAP, and integration services
* Experience operating at SFIA Level 5 across software development, release, systems integration, and methods & tools
* Demonstrated ability to operate independently while guiding technical direction within structured programs

* Large-scale, high-availability government ICT platforms
* This role supports national-scale enterprise platforms where reliability and governance discipline are central
* If your recent experience has been limited to small-scale SAP implementations without exposure to large, regulated environments, this may not align with current requirements
* The role involves structured reporting, technical oversight, and leadership expectations beyond individual contributor coding
