Our expedition style cruises operate seasonally from March through to November, exploring iconic Kimberley destinations between Broome, Wyndham and beyond. JOB SCOPE:
The Deckhand & Expedition Guide is a key member of the onboard expedition team and plays a vital role in delivering the high-end, personalised experience for which The Great Escape is renowned. Operating in a remote cruising environment, the role requires a high level of independence, organisation and adaptability, while working collaboratively with the Vessel Master and Crew. You will be responsible for delivering exceptional guest service that reflect the spirit of the Kimberley, while prioritising health & safety, sharing passionate knowledge of the region, personalised Guest requirements and overall vessel maintenance and presentation. Organisation, forward planning and a genuine passion for people and guest experience are essential to creating memorable journeys in one of Australia's most spectacular and isolated regions.
KEY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
* Be actively involved in the safe operation and daily running of the vessel, ensuring the comfort and safety of all guests and crew are maintained at very high standards
* Liaise closely with the vessel Master, crew and shore-based team to ensure all duties and activities align with company expectations and operational requirements
* Understand the extremes of tidal movement experienced in Kimberley waters
* Lead and assist with guided shore excursions, demonstrating enthusiasm, leadership and a strong passion for the Kimberley region
* Ensure guest safety at all times during excursions, including safe tender operations, offering physical assistance and additional guidance for less able guests
* Assess and communicate the difficulty level of excursions to guests prior to participation
* Provide engaging and informative commentary on Kimberley history, geology, rock art, flora, fauna, wildlife and places of interest
* Lead guided walks and deliver presentations or talks onboard and ashore with clear, confident communication
* Assist guests with physical needs during excursions where required
* Teach guests basic fishing techniques and assist during fishing activities
* Ensure all required safety equipment is carried on excursions, including first aid backpacks, radios, satellite phones and water bottles
* Baggage handling, loading stores and equipment as required for vessel operations
* Maintain company vessels, tenders and equipment to a high standard
* Participate in watch keeping duties and complete logbook records as required
* Assist with relocation, refit and maintenance periods during December- February (Fremantle based)
* Take pride in supporting a cohesive team working environment, assisting fellow crew members as required to achieve the common goal of Guest satisfaction
QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:
* Current open Coxswain Grade 1 certification
* Current Master 24 certification
* Senior First Aid Certificate
* Minimum 2 years' experience in a customer service or hospitality-based role
* Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
* Strong organisational and time management skills
* Ability to work effectively in a team environment
* Ability to work unsupervised when required
* Current Police Clearance
* Dynamic self-starter with a strong work ethic
DESIRABLE SKILLS:
* Previous experience guiding or working in the Kimberley tourism industry
* Knowledge of the Kimberley region, including history, culture, flora and fauna
* Strong interest in learning and developing guiding and interpretive skills
* Experience operating tenders or small vessels in remote conditions
* Naturalist or interpretation experience
* Food safety skillset certificate
EMPLOYMENT CONDITIONS:
This is a seasonal full-time position rostered 4 weeks on, 2 weeks off. This may vary from time to time depending on the vessel itinerary. Flexibility is required. Crew accommodation is available for rostered time off the vessel.
SALARY/REMUNERATION:
Full-time seasonal position dependent on level of experience and/or skills.

Employment and rosters will commence and finish in Broome
