Morris Nautical is looking for a professional, experienced AMSA MED 1 Engineer for a 35m foreign-flagged yacht based in Cairns. This is a hands‑on, sole engineer position requiring exceptional technical expertise across all onboard systems and a proactive, solutions‑oriented approach.
About the role
As an experienced engineer, you will be required to:
Ensure the safe and efficient operation of all engineering systems onboard, including propulsion, generators, fuel systems, HVAC, watermakers, hydraulics, refrigeration, and hotel services.
Maintain, repair, and operate the yacht’s mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems.
Oversee engineering maintenance schedules and compliance requirements.
Troubleshoot technical issues with a hands‑on approach.
Maintain a detailed preventive maintenance program and manage all service schedules and technical records.
Oversee inventory control of critical spares and coordinate the procurement of parts and technical support as required.
Implement and uphold safety procedures in accordance with flag state requirements and keep all engineering logs, records, and statutory documentation up to date.
Conduct regular system checks and fault diagnosis to minimise downtime.
About you
STCW95/COST
Valid AMSA MED 1 or Y3
Seafarers medical certificate
Previous experience in a similar role on vessels of comparable size.
Experience as chief or sole engineer on vessels of similar size and complexity.
Strong working knowledge of engines, electrical systems, hydraulics, HVAC, etc.
Familiarity with maintenance software and electronic logbooks.
High level of autonomy, attention to detail, and ability to problem‑solve under pressure.
Australian working rights only.
