Overview
Apprentice Parks and Gardens - Tuncurry — Traineeship and Apprenticeship opportunities with MidCoast Council for 2026. This role provides hands-on experience, on-the-job training, and mentorship in Parks and Gardens/Horticulture while developing a career in local government.
Responsibilities
* Work in the Parks Maintenance team to help maintain Council's parks, reserves, sports fields, cemeteries, and other recreational assets.
* Operate and maintain park maintenance plant and equipment.
* Contribute to the upkeep of natural assets such as trees, shrubs, groundcover plantings, street garden beds, floral displays, and turf areas.
Qualifications
* Have a genuine interest and aptitude for working in Council's community spaces.
* Be motivated to develop a career in this field.
* Demonstrate diligence through past study or work experience.
The qualification for this position is to be confirmed, but will be through TAFE NSW to attain a Certificate III in either Horticulture (24 months) or Parks and Gardens (3 years).
Please note that to be a successful candidate for this role you'll be required to complete a pre-employment basic skills assessment and medical check (medical assessment will include a drug and alcohol test, sight and hearing, functional and medical components).
Commencement, Remuneration and Location
* Commencement: Tuesday 27 January 2026.
* Remuneration: The salary for this traineeship ranges from approximately $31,288 to $53,196 p.a. in accordance with the Local Government (State) Award. Salary determined by age, qualifications, and prior experience. Superannuation (12%) is additional.
* Location: Primary work location at MidCoast Council Depot, Grey Gum Road, Tuncurry; may be based at other Council sites across the MidCoast Council region.
Tenure
* Fixed term 2-3 years (to be confirmed).
* 38 hours per week with a fortnightly rostered day off.
