This role supports varied offshore work scopes, including our windfarm projects, whereby we support our clients by gathering essential data for assessing seafloor and sub-seafloor conditions, ensuring foundational success of these ground-breaking ventures.
The Opportunity
We are looking for a Data Specialist to join the Data Centre and Geophysics Team. The Data Specialist will assist in processing and delivering geodata and digital products to our clients, such as survey information, bathymetry survey data and geophysical data.
As a data driven company, Fugro collects, collates, synthesize, and presents data in digital, interactive and charted formats. We acquire hydrographic, bathymetric, metocean, geophysical and geotechnical data using remotely operated vehicles (ROV), unmanned surface vessels (USV), dedicated survey vessels and vessels of opportunity. All acquired data requires assessment and processing by the Data Centre before being analysed by other industry experts.
Fugro Data Specialists are not made from a single mould. They encapsulate all types of professional abilities, including data science, data analytics, geomatics, surveying, cartography, engineering, multibeam processing and geophysics.
Using industry and Fugro developed software, the responsibilities of the Data Specialist include:
11. Work with Project Teams to create and maintain high quality datasets within required timeframe for delivery
12. Contribution to the collation, synthesis and presentation of project and archived data
13. Actively keep up to date with latest developments in applicable software

Detailed responsibilities:Processing of geospatial data, including;Survey sensor positionsMultibeam datasetsSingle beam datasetsBackscatter datasetsGeophysical DatasetsApplication of GIS processing and presentation of dataAdherence to quality protocolsThe maintenance of digital databases and electronic filesGeneration of figures and charts
About You
Data Specialists have a passion for data, so anyone interested in computers, computer sciences and data processing will have a distinct advantage. Prior experience in the marine industry or surveying is desired, but not essential.
Your success in securing this role will require:
15. Recognised qualifications in Spatial Sciences, Computer Sciences, Surveying, Cartography, Geomatics, GIS, Applied Engineering, Engineering or related fields.
16. Possess excellent verbal, written and interpersonal skills
17. Demonstrated problem-solving, decision-making and prioritising skills
18. Ability to manage large volumes of information, whilst committed to delivering high quality results
19. Proactively contribute to a collaborative teamwork environment
