Job Overview
Sydney Metro is looking for a Senior Finance & Accounting Manager to support financial governance, accounting policy and compliance across the organisation. The role will develop, interpret and implement financial policies, provide high‐level technical accounting advice, oversee compliance processes and support accurate and standards‐aligned financial reporting.
Responsibilities
* Deliver high‐quality financial governance, accounting policy and compliance across Sydney Metro.
* Develop, interpret and implement financial policies.
* Provide high‐level technical accounting advice.
* Oversee compliance processes and support consistent, accurate, standards‐aligned financial reporting.
* Work across divisions and with cluster partners to embed best‐practice accounting standards, policies and procedures.
* Manage overall compliance with TPG 24‐08 and subsequent TPGs, including development of the annual controls testing program, performance of controls testing on a risk‐assessed basis, recording of testing results and briefing to executives, Board and Audit and Risk Committee.
* Engage with the Risk and Internal Audit functions to keep the controls library and annual testing plan fit‐for‐purpose.
* Manage and coordinate response and executive briefings to various Audit Office reporting, including management letter points, Auditor General's report to parliament and performance audit requests; support implementation of agreed recommendations arising from audit reports.
Qualifications
* Strong expertise in Australian Accounting Standards, technical accounting and financial reporting in a large or complex environment.
* Ability to clearly explain complex accounting matters, provide practical advice and ensure compliance with standards and policies.
* Experience navigating complex environments, interpreting diverse legislative and regulatory requirements, managing multiple high‐value and high‐risk transactions, and balancing commercial objectives with public accountability.
* Proficient in a government control environment, engaging with diverse stakeholders and influencing without direct authority.
* Strong negotiation and communication skills; ability to guide teams through policy interpretation, challenge assumptions and build alignment across finance, audit and external agencies.
* Proactive, confident in shaping a newly created role, and able to uplift financial policy, reporting quality and compliance across the organisation.
