About the role

Work as a multi-skilled member of the Operating Theatre Team to provide non-clinical ancillary support to the theatre staff to complement the delivery of safe, effective, quality patient care. The position is also required to deliver services to the theatre campus and the general hospital as directed by facility management.

Responsibilities

- Liaise with relevant staff to confirm equipment requirements in line with the theatre list, and assemble equipment checking to ensure that it is complete, clean, and correctly functioning
- Identify equipment for maintenance and refer to relevant staff
- Maintain supplies as required in consultation with relevant staff
- Ensure appropriate cleaning and removal of soiled linen and waste is undertaken in preparation between procedures and at the completion of the theatre list, including in theatre and ancillary rooms
- Provide assistance during the positioning and prepping stage of the patient and inter-operatively as required
- Transport blood, pathology specimens, and other items necessary using standard precautions

Where you'll be working: This is an opportunity to work for the largest local health district in NSW which services a population of more than 900,000 across the Hunter, New England, and Lower Mid North Coast areas.

John Hunter Hospital is a Level 6, tertiary referral, major trauma and teaching hospital and is the largest hospital in the Hunter New England Local Health District. HNELHD has strong, innovative connections with the University of Newcastle and Hunter Medical Research Institute.

In this position, you will work alongside a large multidisciplinary team within the Theatres department at John Hunter Hospital.

This is a Category A position. Recommended applicants will be reviewed for compliance with NSW Health policy directive. All recent employees must agree to comply with the requirements outlined in the policy.

All NSW Health workers are required to have completed a primary course of a COVID-19 vaccine which has been approved or recognised by the Therapeutics Goods Administration (TGA). New applicants must have completed the vaccination course prior to commencement with NSW Health or provide an approved medical contraindication certificate (AIR Immunisation History Statement) certifying the worker cannot have any approved COVID-19 vaccines available in NSW.

Acceptable proof of COVID-19 vaccination is the Australian Immunisation Register (AIR) Immunisation History Statement (IHS), or AIR COVID-19 Digital Certificate, or AIR COVID-19 and Influenza IHS. Booster doses are highly recommended for all health care workers who have completed the primary course of COVID-19 vaccinations.
