Position Summary
Lead the delivery of payroll functions within the integrated Human Resource Management (HRM) system to provide guidance, quality assurance, and high‐level client support to ensure compliance and continuous improvement in payroll operations.

Employment Details
Permanent, full‐time, 73.5 hours per fortnight.
Salary: $86,325 - $99,237 per annum (General Stream Band 4 - Tasmanian State Service Award).
Responsibilities
* Oversee the processing and validation of payroll transactions ensuring accuracy and compliance with legislative and industrial requirements.
* Interpret award conditions, enterprise agreements, and departmental policies, resolving queries and anomalies with authoritative expertise.
* Act as key liaison between Payroll Services and internal/external stakeholders including leaders and external agencies.
* Mentor and support payroll officers, contributing to staff capability through coaching, guidance, and knowledge sharing.
* Conduct payroll audits and implement internal controls to maintain data integrity and ensure compliance with audit and regulatory standards.
* Support system upgrades, improvements, and testing with IT and HR teams, contributing to feedback and change management initiatives.
Pre‐Employment Checks
The Head of the State Service requires a pre‐employment check prior to appointment. Serious criminal offences may provide grounds for declining an application. Relevant offences include:
* Arson and fire setting;
* Sexual offences;
* Dishonesty (e.g., theft, burglary, fraud);
* Deception (e.g., obtaining an advantage by deception);
* Violent crimes and crimes against the person;
* Malicious damage and destruction to property;
* Trafficking of narcotic substances.
Qualifications & Requirements
Experience in the use of HR information System Empower is required.
