About This Opportunity
We are seeking a motivated and experienced Research Academic to lead a high-impact research initiative focused on the elimination of sexually transmitted infections (STIs) in the Cairns and Hinterland region of Far North Queensland.
In this role, you will provide strategic leadership across all phases of the NHMRC-funded study, which adopts a place-based, precision public health approach. Working closely with Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Organisations (ACCHOs), local health services, and community stakeholders, you will coordinate the co-design, implementation, and evaluation of integrated interventions targeting the drivers of STI transmission. This includes addressing health system gaps, strengthening community engagement, and capturing the structural and social determinants influencing sexual health outcomes. You will oversee both qualitative and quantitative data collection, ensuring cultural safety and community governance, while driving knowledge translation that supports policy reform, service innovation, and community-led solutions.
This is a research focused position. Further information can be found by viewing UQ’s Criteria for Academic Performance.
About You
Applicants should possess a PhD in a relevant discipline, such as Indigenous Health, Public Health, or related health field. You will also bring an understanding of culturally safe communication or demonstrated experience working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander populations (such as health services or communities).
