Primary Responsibilities:
Provide legal support across the spectrum of Markets and other lines of business in Asia Pacific. The candidate will be supervised by the Head of Legal for Markets in the region and will be responsible for duties including the following:
* Advising on applicable laws and relevant financial and bank regulations, including ongoing regulatory developments impacting the products and services;
* Drafting and negotiating legal contracts and trade documentation relating to the Markets business lines, for example NAFMII/ISDA/CSA and related agreements, trading platform agreements, Transition Management Agreements, trade confirmations and brokerage agreements, GMSLA/MSLA and other securities lending/repo related agreements;
* Reviewing and advising on product and jurisdictional expansion initiatives, which may include liaising with external counsel;
* Collaborating with legal colleagues across APAC, US and EMEA regions and other corporate partners within the organization (Tax, Risk, Compliance etc) as applicable;
* Creating, maintaining and managing product templates, guidelines and external legal advice.
Required Qualifications:
* Licensed to practice law in a common law jurisdiction (e.g. US, UK, HK or other) with 3+ years of relevant legal experience in law firm and/or in-house position;
* Contract negotiations and drafting experience; ability to review Chinese documents and negotiate in Mandarin (as well as in English) would be advantageous but not required;
* Good understanding of financial regulations and bank regulatory framework (e.g. netting enforceability, licensing and marketing, bank resolution rules, data privacy, China trading links, corporate governance, conduct rules);
* Familiarity and exposure across multiple APAC jurisdictions (e.g. Australia, HK, Japan, Singapore, Korea, Taiwan, China) and understanding of key issues for each market;
* Ability to work with business units to achieve practical and commercial solutions within applicable regulatory and risk parameters;
* Team player with excellent communication and interpersonal skills and willingness to learn and pitch in to help colleagues at all levels with sensitivity towards the diverse cultural context in which we operate.
