Position Information
The Crescent School SSP is a specialised education setting providing intensive levels of support to students diagnosed with intellectual disabilities and/or additional needs in social and emotional learning. Students in our K-6 and 7-12 CoPs have been diagnosed with intellectual disabilities and work on modified curriculum, including Life Skills curriculum when they enter high school. Students in the MM unit have been diagnosed / identified with Autism Spectrum Disorder and/or additional needs in social and emotional learning and work on adjusted curriculum which may be aligned to mainstream outcomes, mainstream outcomes with adjustments, or Life Skills curriculum. All learning across the school is aligned to system requirements and tailored to the individual student through the Collaborative Curriculum planning process.
The school enrolment includes 52 students with an intellectual disability, 12 students with Autism as a primary diagnosis and 13 students identified with additional needs in the domain of social emotional and behavioural difficulties. 18% (14 students) identify as Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander, and 5% (4 students) have a language background with English as an Additional Language or Dialect. The school's current Family Occupation and Education Index (FOEI) is 157.
Qualifications
* Approval to teach special education and/or experience in teaching students with disabilities, including those with autism spectrum disorder, mild and/or moderate intellectual disabilities, severe intellectual disabilities, behaviour and additional communication needs.
* Demonstrated capacity to plan, deliver, and evaluate tailored programs that are engaging and culturally inclusive, with a focus on student engagement and wellbeing.
* Demonstrated expertise in classroom management strategies that effectively address the diverse learning and behaviour needs of students.
* Highly developed communication and interpersonal skills that promote collaboration with staff and positive partnerships with parents, carers, community members, support agencies, and students.
Conditions
An unconditional full approval to teach is a requirement. If you do not hold a full approval to teach with the NSW Department of Education, you are required to commence the application process at the same time as you apply for this teaching opportunity.
