Senior Network Security Engineer
Grade: 9/10
Salary range: $129,464 - $142,665 + superannuation and leave loading
Duration: permanent full-time role, ongoing
Location: Hybrid with an in-office requirement on Tuesdays and Thursdays in Sydney, McKell. This may be subject to change in line with DCS workplace policies

NSW Telco Authority is seeking a Senior Network Security Engineer to play a pivotal role in strengthening and securing critical network infrastructure that supports essential government services.
This is a senior technical role where you’ll provide expert guidance across projects, design and implement secure network solutions, and help uplift cyber security capability across complex IT and OT environments. You’ll work closely with internal teams and external partners to ensure network services are resilient, scalable and secure by design.
About the team
This role sits within the Cyber Security team in Digital and Technology in the NSW Telco Authority.

Our mission is to drive cyber security improvement and innovation in Network Security across both IT and OT environments, while improving the scalability and resiliency of the Telco Authority Network.
Your responsibilities will include
* Acting as the Network Security SME, providing trusted guidance and technical leadership across projects
* Ensuring network solutions comply with cyber security best practices and relevant regulatory and compliance requirements
* Designing and implementing network solutions to protect availability, integrity and confidentiality
* Collaborating with third‑party vendors to deliver solutions that meet agreed standards and commitments
* Ensuring network solutions align with Telco Authority operational, security and resilience requirements
* Providing operational escalation support to Network Operations and Security Operations teams
* Producing and maintain high‑quality design and as‑built documentation, including current network diagrams

To be successful in this role you will have
* Essential Security Clearance: You will be able to obtain and retain minimum Baseline Security clearance within six months to work with sensitive government and critical communications information
* Strong design and implementation experience in network and network security environments
* Proven technical expertise across technologies including routing, switching, next‑generation firewalls, Network Access
* Control (NAC), public cloud environments and Application Delivery Controllers (ADC)
* Excellent communication skills, with the ability to engage confidently with technical and non‑technical stakeholders at all levels
* Demonstrated experience producing detailed design and as‑built documentation and network diagrams
* Experience developing technology roadmaps aligned to organisational strategy
* Relevant industry certifications in networking and/or cyber security
* Strong awareness of current and emerging ICT, cyber security and cyber risk trends
* Experience working within complex, regulated or critical infrastructure environments
