The Role
As the Leading Hand Drainage Labourer & Driver, you will play a key role in supporting the delivery of drainage maintenance and cleansing services across Boroondara. Working closely with the Coordinator Drainage Maintenance & Cleansing, you will assist with day‐to‐day operations of the Drainage Maintenance Crew while leading by example in safety, quality and customer service. This position combines on‐site leadership with hands‐on operational work, including driving heavy vehicles, operating mechanical plant and undertaking physical labour associated with drainage, road and asset maintenance.
Key Responsibilities
In this role you will assist in supervising and guiding the Drainage Maintenance Crew to ensure works are completed efficiently and to required standards. You will undertake drainage inspections, maintenance, repairs and cleansing works while operating council plant, trucks and vehicles. You will support induction and training of team members, maintain accurate records of works completed and ensure tools, plant and equipment are kept safe and serviceable. You will also liaise professionally with residents, contractors and other stakeholders, and play an active role in maintaining a safe work environment through adherence to OH&S and traffic management requirements. Participation in an on‐call roster for emergency works is also a requirement of this position.
About You
You are an experienced drainage or maintenance professional who enjoys working outdoors and leading others through practical, hands‐on guidance. You bring strong technical skills, a commitment to safety and the ability to communicate effectively with team members, contractors and the community. You hold a Victorian driver licence with a heavy rigid endorsement and are confident operating a range of mechanical plant. You are organised, reliable and comfortable balancing physical work with administrative requirements, while remaining adaptable to changing priorities and emergency response situations.
Employment Requirements
Applicants must hold unrestricted working rights in Australia, and those progressing through the selection process will need to complete a National Police Record Check, a Working with Children check and relevant pre‐employment medical assessments.
