Job Summary
The Area Manager is accountable for the overall Engineering, Procurement and Construction Management associated with the Process area scope, and other works as may be assigned. The Area Manager coordinates with project Functional Managers to support Project goals.
During construction execution, the Area Manager is responsible for implementing and monitoring operations are compliant with the projects site rules, ES&H policies and procedures, quality controls and relevant regulatory standards.
This role directs work in the field through all phases of construction, supervises and directs contractors, a subordinate supervision and functional support team, and others as assigned while ensuring construction operations and contractors performance is compliant with specifications, within scheduled and budget.
The Area Manager will liaise directly with an equivalent client Area Manager.
Key Responsibilities
* Responsible for direction or performance of staff activities,including employee development and guidance withinassigned area(s).
* Champion capital intensity for the process area facilities.
* Development of detailed execution plans incorporating value optimisation opportunities and risk mitigation.
* Supervises the administration of budgets and schedules, manages performance, reports progress, and initiates action to assure program/project objectives and schedules are met and work is performed within budget and according to specifications
* Ensures processes and procedures are fully developed andimplemented.
* Recommends changes to policies and guidelines wherenecessary.
* Serves as a liaison between project teams, internal orexternal clients or other functional areas of the organization within area of scope.
* Ensures work is completed on time and within establishedquality standards and provides reports to internal andexternal clients and/or project/functional management.
* Environmental, Safety & Health (ES&H); Security and Quality & Performance Management.
* Customer Interface – communications directly with area client representatives in all areas of responsibility.
Requirements
* Bachelor's or Master's degree (or international equivalent) and 13-15 years of relevant experience or 17-19 years of relevant work experience
* Knowledge of Bechtel organization, policies, procedures, and programs including QA and Safety, particularly as they relate to combined cycle power generation.
* Experience with reimbursable projects, especially in the Mining and Metals sector.
* Ability to effectively organise staff operating in a matrix organisation.
* Knowledge and understanding of Bechtel standard tools, techniques, and procedures.
* Business and Commercial acumen.
* Knowledge and experience in Project Execution Plan development and implementation.
* Knowledge of continuous improvement methodologies.
* Knowledge and experience in contracts/subcontracts formulation, risk analysis, negotiations, and implementation including project insurance requirements:
* Knowledge of cross functional work processes and interface knowledge, especially Project Controls, Supply Chain management, Quality management and the ability to manage the relationships/interfaces with management and functional groups.
* Oral, written, and graphic communication and presentation skills.
* Experience in executing construction projects.
* Ability to prepare client recommendations and work through detailed justifications with client counterpart.
