About the role
IPART's legal team is looking for a motivated, capable principal lawyer to provide advice and other legal services to support our work regulating essential services such as water and energy and to make recommendations to the NSW Government on policy. You would be responsible for legal services for a portfolio of matters affecting the people of NSW. You would advise on IPART's legal powers and responsibilities, draft determinations and decisions, and explain complex legal requirements to a range of audiences.
About you
You should have a passion for good legal communication – presenting your analysis plainly and clearly, in a way that is technically accurate but accessible to your audiences. You should be motivated to make a difference and identify legal risk, recommend solutions, and use advanced legal skills in the public interest. You should have a combination of first‐class technical legal skills (especially in drafting and advice) and client relationship capabilities.
Essential Requirements
* Tertiary qualifications in law
* Eligible to hold a practising certificate in NSW
Eligibility
To apply you must be an Australian Citizen or Permanent Resident of Australia, or a New Zealand citizen with a current New Zealand passport.
Salary
$148,961 – $158,157 per annum, plus superannuation and annual leave loading. An increase to this salary is scheduled from 1 July 2026, in line with C2024-07 Crown Employees (Public Sector- Salaries 2024) Award.
