Epworth at Home is part of Epworth's Continuing Care and Support Services Division, which includes Hospital in the Home and Chemotherapy in the Home, along with other community services.
This role offers permanent part-time opportunities for RNs who enjoy working with a variety of acute patients in their homes. The successful candidate will work independently, visiting patients to administer antineoplastic drugs from a defined list of treatments. Prior to leaving hospital and at the point of care, medications will be checked with another qualified nurse. A strong foundation in antineoplastic drug handling and administration is essential. Hospital in the Home (HITH) provides 24-hour acute care in patients' homes, with nurses delivering high-level care under the direction of the Nurse Unit Manager and medical team, collaborating with ward staff to ensure smooth care transfer.
Chemotherapy in the Home (CITH) offers home-based cancer care, working closely with oncologists, pharmacists, and medical staff to administer treatments effectively. Experience in both areas is preferred, and upskilling is available as needed.
The unit operates 24/7 with an on-call service. Epworth provides a car, phone, and laptop during shifts.
To be successful in this role, you will have:
* Current nursing registration with AHPRA
* Valid Full Australian Driver's License (a driving assessment will be conducted)
* Understanding of community-based services
* Demonstrated autonomous practice
* Strong prioritisation, time management, and organisational skills
* Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
* Advanced clinical assessment and problem-solving skills
* Ability to escalate clinical deterioration
* Commitment to ongoing education
* Proficiency in Microsoft Office
Hospital in the Home (HITH) essential skills include:
* Minimum 3 years' experience in HITH or acute hospital wards
* Knowledge of PICC and CVAD management
* Complex wound care expertise
* Current IV cannulation certification and venepuncture experience
* Management of IDC and SPC, drain tubes
Desirable HITH skills:
* Chemotherapy administration
* CVAD insertion
* Negative Pressure Therapy
* PleurX Drain management
* Nutrition management, stoma care, PORT insertion
* Postgraduate qualifications in relevant fields
Chemotherapy in the Home (CITH) essential skills:
* Minimum 3 years in chemotherapy or related wards
* Completion of Anti-Cancer Drug Administration Course (ADAC) or equivalent
* Knowledge of cancer treatment protocols
* Experience with PICC and CVAD management
Desirable CITH skills include:
* Negative Pressure Therapy
* Drain management, wound care, postgraduate qualifications
