Our team manages accounts payable and receivable, travel, procurement, grants, payroll, and financial systems. We provide advice and training to help staff navigate financial processes confidently. By maintaining robust financial operations, we enable teams to meet their responsibilities and deliver outcomes that reflect responsible use of public resources.
As an Assistant Director of the Travel, Credit Cards, and Concur section you will manage the credit card programs including travel related transactions and the Concur expense system. You will also provide expert support to help staff navigate these corporate services with ease.

As an Assistant Director in the Travel, Credit Cards and Concur section this role is responsible for managing Concur and Credit Cards, ensuring compliance, efficiency, and strong financial governance, as well as assisting the travel team as required.
Key duties for this position include, but are not limited to:
* Leading & Developing the Team – Guide, mentor, and support a diverse team to deliver high-quality service, foster collaboration, and build capability
* Managing Compliance & Governance – Oversee credit card policies, expense management, and financial compliance, ensuring adherence to the financial management framework
* Driving System & Process Improvements – Lead the review, implementation, and enhancement of Concur system administration and credit card functions to improve efficiency and governance
* Providing Expert Advice & Analysis – Conduct high-level research, offer specialist financial advice, and drive key projects to support business needs
* Preparing High-Quality Reports & Briefs – Draft and review governance documents, policy guidance, Senate Estimates briefs, and executive reports, ensuring accuracy and relevance
* Engaging with Stakeholders – Represent the department in key meetings, manage escalations, and provide timely and accurate advice to internal and external stakeholders
* Managing Daily Operations – Oversee credit card functions and Concur administration, streamline processes, and ensure smooth service delivery
* Handling Escalations & Complex Correspondence – Address high-level inquiries, prepare reports with analysis and recommendations, and develop presentation materials
* Reviewing & Reporting on Audits – Monitor internal and ANAO audit reports, ensure governance alignment, and escalate sensitive matters as needed.

* This recruitment process will be used to fill one ongoing position.
* The merit pool established through this selection process, which is valid for a period of eighteen months from the date the vacancy was advertised in the Public Service Gazette, may also be used to fill future ongoing vacancies in the branch where the duties are of a similar nature.
* While this is a hybrid role, the preferred location for this position is Canberra (ACT); however, consideration will be given to applicants from other major cities who meet both the essential and desirable skills and experience requirements.
What are we looking for
Our ideal candidate will have:
* Team Leadership – Proven experience in guiding, mentoring, and managing high performing teams in alignment with APS Values.
* Financial Systems – Experience with expense management systems (e.g., Concur or TechnologyOne).
* Demonstrated customer service experience in an APS environment in a fast-paced environment. Highly desirable skills.
* Proven ability to provide travel policy advice and technical expertise based on Whole of Australian Government (WoAG) and department policies and legislation on domestic travel, international travel, and travel acquittals.
* Experience in procurement or contract management.
