Overview
Senior Mechanical Design Engineer – Weir Minerals – Artarmon or Somersby – Hybrid
Support the Weir Minerals business through the effective development of innovative engineering solutions for current to Weir or Industry, Equipment and Systems.
Responsible for implementing and overseeing, the timely creation of 3D models drawings, mechanical integrity and operability for a variety of new process equipment designs and associated systems, taking their development from concept and ideation to prototyping and full manufacture.
The role will also offer assistance with on-site installation, commissioning and operation of prototypes and trial equipment.
Key Responsibilities
- Demonstrate your creativity, take an active lead in ideation and develop concept designs with novel features, assist with turning these new concepts into IP proposals and submissions.
- Take a design lead role for projects, prepare 3D models, 3D assemblies and supervise the production of detailed drawings, utilizing parametric and synchronous modelling techniques as appropriate.
- Ensure suitable completion of the major mechanical and structural design functions covering all inputs and offering quality outputs which exceed industry expectations. Utilising design tools such as NX and Ansys FEA software.
- Following Weir's NPI development process, take designs to the next level with the secure on-site installation, commissioning and operation of prototypes and trial equipment.
- Develop products, sub-systems and enhancements with a primary focus on safety. Ensure designs are easy of use, delivering the highest quality and are cost effective. Complete full design and risk assessments, applying DFMEA methodologies to minimize product costs and demonstrating 100% commitment to our zero harm behaviors in support of our drive towards developing a world class safety culture.
Job Knowledge / Education and Qualifications
- 3 or 4 year bachelor's degree in an engineering discipline with masters degree viewed favourably.
- 10 years of engineering experience in minerals processing equipment.
- In depth knowledge of NX modelling, use of Teamcenter within Citrix, parts libraries, workflow and document control.
- Knowledgeable in the use of Ansys FEA with a basic understanding of structural design, basic pressure vessel design, piping system design, weld selection and sizing, bearing life and rotating shaft design all viewed favourably.
