Meeka Metals Limited (MEK) has just built Western Australia's newest gold mine, and key to our success is securing a Safety & Training Advisor to join the Health and Safety team at their flagship site - Murchison Gold Project, 50 km north of Meekatharra.
The project is a combined open pit and underground gold mining operation with an initial 10-year mine life.
Open pit mining commenced in March **** and the Underground mining commenced in July ****.
A second Underground will start in ****.
About the Role
The Safety & Training Advisor reporting into the Health & Safety Superintendent is responsible for providing technical advice and support to the site leadership team and employees regarding all Safety and Training requirements.
The role is offered on an 8:6 roster, FIFO from Perth.
Key Responsibilities
Provide expert advice on all aspects of Workplace Health and Safety (WHS), including developing and implementing WHS programmes, hazard and risk management, compliance, incident investigations, and training compliance/governance.
Coordination of External and Internal Training programs and ensure training records are maintained, kept up to date, and processes are reviewed for efficiency.
Build and maintain strong relationships with all workgroups, especially management, supervisors, safety reps, and key stakeholders.
Support the development and implementation of safety systems, processes, and practices aligned with the corporate management system.
Monitor and respond to WHS legislation and workplace emergencies.
Investigate incidents and submit detailed reports and recommendations.
Maintain the site's safety management system.
Lead safety committee meetings and support the development of Health and Safety Representatives.
Conduct workplace inspections, identifying and reporting hazards or unsafe conditions.
Manage moderately complex projects using initiative and sound judgement.
Conduct safety audits (on-site and desktop) to identify improvement opportunities.
Review site procedures and plans as needed.
About You
+4 years' experience in a similar role (Processing area an advantage)
Incident Investigation and Reporting (ICAM desirable).
Experience in the development and implementation of safety management systems.
Experience in the practical application of safety in a heavy industrial/mining industry.
Sound knowledge and understanding of Western Australia Occupational Health and Safety, Workers' Compensation Legislation, Regulations, Standards and Codes of Practice.
