Nqpetro is seeking an experienced and commercially minded Accountant to join our Cairns-based team, supporting operations nationally.
This is a hands-on role suited to someone who understands a fast-paced engineering and project environment. You will manage the day-to-day financial operations of the business, ensuring accurate reporting, strong compliance, and effective financial controls to support our project and service delivery and continued growth.
Key Responsibilities
Financial Reporting & Analysis
* Prepare management reports including Profit & Loss, Balance Sheet and Cash Flow statements
* Assist with project and service margin analysis and operational performance reporting
* Support budgeting, business and cash flow forecasting and variance analysis
* Assist with year-end financial statements and audit preparation
Compliance & Statutory Reporting
* Prepare and lodge BAS, GST, PAYG and FBT
* Manage payroll-related compliance including PAYG, STP2, Superannuation and Payroll Tax obligations for all States and Territories
* Ensure compliance with ATO and relevant state-based regulatory requirements
* Maintain accurate reconciliations and internal controls
Accounts & Transactional Support
* Provide oversight of supplier payments and customer invoicing, including progress claims
* Work alongside Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable teams to support and strengthen processes
* Assist with reconciliations and selected transactional processing where required
* Monitor debtor performance and cash flow movements
Operational & Commercial Support
* Partner with internal teams for WIP review and ensure financial accuracy across projects
* Contribute to continuous improvement of financial systems and processes
* Maintain asset registers and support capital expenditure tracking
About You
You are a qualified accounting professional with experience ideally within engineering, construction, fabrication or project or service-driven industries.
You are a capable and commercially minded accounting professional who enjoys being hands-on, understands business operations, and can balance compliance requirements with commercial awareness.
You are confident working independently while collaborating closely with operational teams and leadership.
Selection Criteria
Qualifications
* Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance or related discipline
* CPA or CA (or working towards) highly regarded
Experience
* Demonstrated experience in a mid-level accounting role within private enterprise
* Experience in project-based or operational businesses highly regarded
* Strong knowledge of financial reporting and statutory compliance
* Exposure to both reporting and transactional processing
Technical Skills
* Strong Microsoft Excel or other database skills
* Demonstrated exposure to job costing programs
* Experience with MYOB or similar accounting systems
* Experience working with payroll systems such as Employment Hero advantageous
