Position Summary
The Head Chef is responsible for overseeing all aspects of kitchen operations at The Cabin Small Bar. This includes leading the kitchen team, designing seasonal menus, ensuring consistency and quality of food output, managing food costs and inventory, and upholding health and safety standards. The Head Chef plays a key leadership role in delivering an outstanding dining experience aligned with the venue's brand.
Key Responsibilities
* Lead daily kitchen operations, including preparation, service, stock management, and cleaning
* Develop and implement creative seasonal menus that reflect the venue's modern share-style ethos
* Supervise, train, and mentor kitchen staff, including rostering and team development
* Maintain high food quality, presentation standards, and consistency in every dish
* Monitor and manage food and labour costs to meet budgetary targets
* Ensure full compliance with food safety, hygiene, and OH&S regulations
* Liaise with suppliers and manage inventory, including ordering and stock rotation
* Collaborate with management team to execute events, functions, and menu promotions
* Troubleshoot kitchen issues and resolve them proactively and professionally
Skills & Experience
* Proven ability to lead, motivate, and manage a small kitchen team
* Experience in high-volume service and short-order environments preferred
* Strong knowledge of cost control, portioning, and menu engineering
* Ability to work under pressure, multitask, and maintain high standards
* Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
* Understanding of food trends and modern Australian cuisine
Working Conditions
* 5-day full-time roster including weekends
* Split shifts may be required depending on service hours
* Physical role requiring standing for extended periods and lifting
