Arthur Restaurant – Surry Hills
Arthur is looking for a passionate, capable sommelier to join our small team in Surry Hills. This role can be structured as full-time or casual, depending on the right person.
This is a rare opportunity to work with a focused, Australian-only wine list in an intimate dining room, with genuine scope to help shape the program and take real ownership.
The Opportunity
* Work with a thoughtfully curated Australian-only wine list, centred on quality, integrity and discovery
* Build deep knowledge of Australian producers, regions and styles
* Enjoy meaningful guest interaction in a small room where conversation and storytelling matter
* Take an active role in shaping the wine program rather than simply servicing it
* Collaborate closely with the kitchen and management team on pairings and the overall guest experience
The Role
As a small, hands-on venue, the role is broader than a traditional sommelier position and includes assisting in some venue management and stock control.
* Wine ordering, stocktaking, inventory control and cellar organisation
* Managing supplier relationships and maintaining accurate stock levels
* Contributing to wine list development and updates
* Assisting with menu editing and printing (wine and food menus)
* Providing warm, confident wine service on the floor
* Supporting opening and closing procedures and general venue operations
About You
* A genuine interest in Australian wine and hospitality
* Comfortable taking ownership and responsibility in a small team
* Organised and detail-oriented, particularly with stock and ordering
* Confident engaging with guests and communicating wine clearly
* Sommelier experience (with qualifications) preferred, but strong wine-focused FOH professionals encouraged to apply
