About the opportunity
Our Animal Welfare Compliance Team is seeking to establish a pool of suitable applicants for the roles of Livestock Compliance Inspector, and Senior Livestock Compliance Inspector.
There is currently one (1) permanent – full time Level 4 Senior Livestock Compliance Inspector position available for immediate filling:
As a Livestock Compliance Inspector, you will be responsible for undertaking inspections on farms, saleyards and intensive production facilities, conducting investigations that achieve positive animal welfare outcomes. You will monitor and implement compliance activities pursuant to the Animal Welfare Act 2002 and other legislation in relation to livestock including poultry, pigs, cattle, sheep, goats and horses. The role requires the preparation of brief of evidence reports, issuing notices, infringements, warnings, and serving court documents. Engaging and liaising with key stakeholders regarding livestock transport and welfare issues is also an important focus for the role.
The Senior Livestock Compliance Inspector will also undertake these duties, along with assisting in the development of operational policies, procedures and protocols to ensure compliance is maintained. This senior role will also provide regular reports on the achievement of targets and take action to remedy issues that may arise.
We are looking for individuals with:
- Knowledge and understanding of livestock welfare, or similar, with the ability to learn.
- Knowledge and understanding of relevant compliance legislation.
- The ability to communicate effectively with a wide range of stakeholders.
- Good organisation skills, with the ability to prioritise competing demands to meet deadlines.

Employment Conditions and Additional Information
DPIRD is an Emergency Management Agency and all employees may be required to work or travel during, or outside of, normal business hours to assist with incidents and emergencies.
