Communications & brand strategy manager (melbourne)

Melbourne
Super Bloom
Posted: 19h ago
Offer description

Super Bloom is an award-winning Melbourne-based plant practice elevating the role of horticulture in Australian design and culture. Now in our fourth year, we're integral to internationally recognised projects that challenge conventions and demonstrate the transformative power of plants for people through a year of resilient wonder. Through high-level horticultural skills, planting design, and ambitious plant-driven projects, we cultivate experiences of beauty, nurture emerging practitioners, change minds, innovate, uphold what is true, and grow futures – with expansion potential in the USA and UK.

The Opportunity

We're seeking a communication and strategic brand professional to shape how Super Bloom shares itself in the world and to ensure a glorious future of growth. This isn't about managing tasks – it's about building brand presence, luminating our superpowers, cultivating quality collaborations and projects, and positioning Super Bloom and its founder, recognised plant creative Jac Semmler, as a leading voice in the field.

You'll work autonomously and highly collaboratively after an initial intensive orientation, thinking strategically while executing hands‑on. You're comfortable being a Swiss army knife across brand, marketing, and communications: writing compelling content, pitching to media, systematising project templates, managing platforms and ecommerce, advising on, and cultivating commercial opportunities. You understand immediacy in ROI in a tiny but mighty studio and can demonstrate it.

What results look like in the first 6 months

- Curate the brand and elevate all touchpoints – Implement a strategic content schedule across the website, social, and communications that supports business objectives and dreamy ambitions.
- Drive quality commercial engagement and user/audience experience – Create clear pathways and commitments for project and brand partnership opportunities.
- Build media presence – Secure consistent, high-quality coverage positioning Super Bloom and Jac Semmler as thought leaders to existing and new audiences.

Key Responsibilities

Brand & Content Strategy

- Own all content creation: copywriting, editing, basic graphic design (Canva/InDesign), website management (Squarespace), and e‑commerce basics.
- Develop and execute cross‑platform campaigns with clear KPI.
- Manage social media strategy, scheduling and community engagement.
- Curate brand voice and continuously improve user/audience experience across all touchpoints in the digital and in real life, including but not exclusive to proposals, presentations, submissions, and events.
- Institute effective and lasting processes and systems for efficient project engagement and delivery.

Media & Partnerships

- Pitch high‑calibre compelling stories, projects, and talent to TV, radio, print media, events and potential brand partners in Australia and beyond.
- Germinate, build and maintain media, brand and client relationships.
- Identify and structure strategic commercial and brand partnerships.

Director Support

- Support and initiate business development strategies.
- Act as a strategic thinking partner to the founder & director.
- Cultivate and care for the public profile of the founder & director.
- Maintain absolute professionalism with discretion in all Super Bloom relationships.

Events & Engagement

- Coordinate and host Super Bloom events (i.e. book launches, project tours, talks).
- Identify and represent Super Bloom at key design and cultural events (i.e. Melbourne International Flower and Garden Show, Melbourne Design Week, etc.).

Qualifications

- 4+ years in marketing, communications, or PR roles (agency or in‑house).
- Proven copywriting and content creation skills.
- Demonstrated ability to secure media coverage and build brand presence.
- Proficient in website design and user experience, social media platforms (LinkedIn, Instagram), EDM tools, e‑commerce, Meta Business Manager, etc.
- Strategic thinker who can also execute hands‑on with a positive can‑do attitude.
- Confident with client‑facing communications and relationship management.
- Bachelor’s degree in marketing, PR, Communications, or related field.
- Tech‑savvy problem solver comfortable with emerging tools and AI.
- Experience with Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Lightroom), Hootsuite, Squarespace, Canva, Meta, Google and Microsoft tools.
- Background in supporting or representing talent, founders or leaders.
- PR or media relations experience with demonstrable results.
- Experience with brand partnerships, sponsorships, or commercial deals.
- Confidence in financial negotiations, reviewing contracts and artist agreements.
- Understanding of or interest in design, architecture, or creative industries.

No horticultural experience required

We need strategic communications expertise. An appreciation for storytelling, high-quality content, commercial acumen and elevating specialised fields and enterprises is essential.

Working Arrangements

- Flexible 24 hours per week (configure as three full days or across five days).
- Primarily home‑based (Melbourne metro or Mornington Peninsula).
- Weekly visit to Frankston studio.
- Event attendance as required (evenings/weekends occasionally).
- Work laptop and phone provided.
- 12‑month contract with potential for extension and role development.

Who You Are

You're a purpose‑driven analytical learner. With a drive for making, building and creating from the ground up, you achieve excellent things with limited resources and have a proven ability to discern what works. You're equally comfortable writing compelling copy, pitching journalists, and advising on strategic positioning. You want to join Super Bloom as a fellow adventurer in elevating Australia's understanding and appreciation of plants, horticulture, and design – and beyond.

You thrive in a fast‑paced atmosphere that hungers for tangible outcomes and purposeful results. You possess the confidence to lead and work autonomously, as well as the humility to collaborate and seek guidance meaningfully. You're discreet, highly organised, and diplomatic – someone who can navigate multiple stakeholders, diverse and complex works and audiences while keeping the big picture and brand in focus. Aesthetic sensibility and a hunger for beauty are highly desirable.

Super Bloom offers space and scope to make a role your own, for growth as Super Bloom scales, with our authenticity and heart in plants and the possibilities of the plant world. To share in an immense impact for people, shaping what resilient beauty means in a changing climate.

To Apply

Send your CV, and a letter explaining your interest and relevant experience, and a minimum of two examples of your work (campaigns, media coverage you've secured, content you've created, or strategic initiatives you've led). We would love to hear about the possibilities you see for Super Bloom.

Be careful - Don’t provide your bank or credit card details when applying for jobs. Don't transfer any money or complete suspicious online surveys. If you see something suspicious, report this job ad.
