CHD Rehabilitationservices are seeking an experienced and highly motivated Occupational Therapistfor our Neurorehabilitation Centre based in Bagshot, Surrey.
This is an exciting opportunity to work within aspecialist multidisciplinary team to develop your skills in neurorehabilitation. You will work alongside highly specialist physiotherapists,speech and language therapist, Clinical Psychologist, specialist nurses and rehabilitation assistants.
At CHD we deliver comprehensive, neurologicalrehabilitation packages which include complex nursing care, intensive therapypackages, long term disability management and slow-stream rehabilitation.This is an opportunity to work with a diverse and complex caseload, whichinclude individuals with prolonged disorders of consciousness, traumatic braininjury, acquired brain injury, spinal cord injury and progressive neurologicalconditions.
The post holder willdeliver a wide range of assessment and interventions including complex posturalmanagement, ADL rehabilitation, upper limb rehabilitation, cognitiverehabilitation, community reintegration and complex dischargeplanning.
You will have an opportunity to participate in regular in-servicetraining, with access to specialist courses to meet your personaldevelopment plan. You will be supervised by an experienced OccupationalTherapist and supported by the onsite multi-disciplinary team
Main duties of the job To develop and maintain Occupational Therapy (OT) services leading on planning, development and evaluation of OT services, ensuring a consistently high standard of assessment, treatment planning and documentation To assess and treat own caseload of people using our services and to maintain own records as an autonomous practitioner. To manage a varied caseload of people using our services including supporting those with Acquired Brain Injury, complex long-term disability and general rehabilitation using evidence based, person centered principles to assess, clinically reason, plan, implement and evaluate interventions To provide knowledge, skills and advice to people using our services, and be a source of expertise for therapy staff, the care team, other members of the MDT and outside agencies. Communication / Relationship Skills Tocommunicate effectively with all members of the multidisciplinary team, peopleusing our services, where appropriate persons of importance to them and allother stakeholders involved in a persons care to maximise rehabilitationpotential and to ensure understanding of condition
Topromote understanding of the aims of rehabilitation across the service andensure a co-ordinated team approach to care provision.
Todemonstrate communication skills of persuasion, motivation, explanation andgaining informed consent from a wide variety of people using our services andto recognise and overcome barriers to effective communication
Toprovide advice, teaching, and instruction to people using our services, personsof importance to them and other professionals.
Clinical Reasoning &Clinical Skills To undertake evidence-basedassessment of people wishing to use our services using investigative andanalytical skills.
Touse appropriate evidence- based clinical reasoning to determine and justifyappropriate treatment plans and goals.
Tosupport other members of the team to utilise and develop evidence- based clinicalreasoning skills to determine and carry out appropriate treatment plans andgoals
Tobe able to assess and identify appropriate equipment for use by staff andpeople using our services and to ensure safety of use and maintenance at alltimes
Torecognise own scope of practice and seek guidance or further training ifrequired
Toevaluate rehabilitation progress and to reassess, alter and adapt treatmentprogrammes if required.
Independentlyselect and apply OT assessments (standardised and non-standardised) for adesignated specialist case load, addressing occupational performance and skilldeficits, and enabling the patients in the areas of self maintenance,productivity, leisure and discharge planning
Toprovide neurorehabilitation, long term disability management and slow streamrehabilitation to those with acquired brain injury and other neurologicalconditions
Toappropriately support person centered goals and outcome measures to facilitate,where appropriate, a safe and timely discharge into the community
Whenrequired to assess and provide OT intervention in a persons own home following lone worker guidelines
Toprovide comprehensive occupational therapy written reports relevant to thecaseload
Toutilise specialist clinical reasoning skills to inform therapy policies andguidelines
Leadership & TeamWork To be responsible for supervision of therapyassistants at CHD Rehabilitation, carrying out regular supervision in line withlocal policy
To workcollaboratively with the therapy team, nursing and care team promoting an individualsindependence and delivering a team approach to rehabilitation
To be a role modelto all members of staff displaying excellent attitude to work and working in linewith all company policies and procedures
Todelegate clinical tasks, as appropriate, to rehabilitation assistants providingdetailed treatment plans to other non-qualified members of staff
Be an active participantof in-service training within the therapy team and when required lead training sessions
Toparticipate in annual appraisal, identifying objectives for service andpersonal development (in collaboration with senior/Lead OT)
Toparticipate in regular clinical and non-clinical supervision (in collaborationwith senior/Lead OT)
Toprovide supervision when required for OT students in introductory placements,and explain the role of the Occupational Therapist to departmental visitors andthose undertaking work experience placement
Health, safety and security Tounderstand all emergency procedures.
Toparticipate in and attend all mandatory training and be familiar with localprocedures within speciality areas of work.
Beaware of Health and Safety aspects of your role and implement any policies whichmay be required to improve the safety of your work area (including the promptrecording and reporting of accidents)
Toensure that all equipment used is in safe working order and that action istaken where deficits or concerns are identified
To ensurethe compliance with all relevant policies, procedures and guidelines includingthose relating to Health and Safety, Equal Opportunities, Confidentiality ofInformation and Data Security.
Responsibility for Policy and Service Improvement & Development Tofollow CHD Rehabilitations guidelines for obtaining consent, and to workwithin a legal framework at all times.
To assist in the collectionof data as directed by the Clinical head of Rehabilitation Services.
To ensure thecontinual development and improvement of the OT services to meet the needs of peopleusing our services.
Touse evidence-based practice, audits, and published research to inform practice.
Toparticipate in audits/research projects and support the wider governanceprogramme.
Quality Tomaintain a high standard of clinical care for people using our services underyour management.
Tomaintain comprehensive and accurate patient records in line with legal,professional and departmental requirements.
Toattend appropriate post-graduate courses and disseminate to the team asrequired

Tobe able to complete required documentation and clinical work by deadlinesagreed, which may be stressful at times
Person Specification Experience Range of post graduate OT experience in a variety of relevant core specialties, or well-rounded student placement experience Experience at Band 5 level or equivalent within Neurorehabilitation Experience of working within an MDT Comprehensive experience of working as an OT with patients with complex conditions Experience of providing training other professional groups Experience of managing complex discharge planning and liaising with relevant professionals, individuals and their representatives Knowledge and Skills High level specialist assessment, management & treatment skills Excellent clinical reasoning skills Excellent time management and organisational skills Excellent interpersonal and communication skills Qualifications Professional Qualification BSc/MSc or Diploma in Occupational Therapy Current HCPC registration Member of Royal College of OT Disclosure and Barring Service Check This post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions Order) 1975 and as such it will be necessary for a submission for Disclosure to be made to the Disclosure and Barring Service (formerly known as CRB) to check for any previous criminal convictions.
