About the program
headspace Eastern Shore and headspace Early Psychosis is a youth and family-friendly mental health service for young people (15–25) experiencing or at risk of psychosis. Our multidisciplinary team delivers evidence-based, recovery-focused care, supporting young people and their families through assessment, intervention, and ongoing support. The MATT and CCT teams provide assertive outreach, crisis management, and intensive engagement, helping young people build resilience and hope for the future.
Your role, your impact
As Peer Support Worker (Mental Health Carer), you'll use your lived experience of supporting someone through mental health recovery to build meaningful, empathetic relationships with carers. You'll help families navigate their own journey by offering reassurance, information, and connection to support networks.
Key responsibilities include:
- Providing peer support to carers and families via telehealth and face-to-face contact
- Sharing information about referral services, carer support groups, and educational resources
- Supporting families to overcome isolation and feel heard
- Contributing to intake processes and helping young people feel welcome
- Assisting with community education and engagement activities
- Offering peer-informed advice to the broader team through secondary consultation
- Maintaining accurate records and contributing to service reporting
Who we're looking for
You'll bring compassion, insight, and a genuine desire to support others. You'll have:
- Lived experience as a carer for someone with mental health challenges
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team
- Cultural sensitivity and awareness
- Understanding of youth mental health and carer support networks
- Willingness to complete Intentional Peer Support (IPS) training if not already completed
Experience working with diverse communities and delivering community education is highly regarded.
